Activity 5.2: Creating Use Cases
To understand a process, you can create use cases that describe all of the
interactions of the actors with a system.
In this activity, you will create use cases for the timesheet process involving the
administrative assistants and the consultants at Ferguson and Bardell, Inc. You
will use the results of this activity in Activity 5.3.
Objectives
After completing this activity, you will be able to:

Before You Begin
This activity consists of individual tasks and class discussion.
Materials
To complete this activity, you will need the Ferguson and Bardell, Inc. case
study in Appendix 1.
Time to complete this activity: 20 minutes followed by a 10-minute class
discussion

Exercise 1: Creating Use Cases

Create uses cases for the consultants and administrative assistants
1. Review the “Timesheet System” and “Timesheet Data Entry” sections in the
case study.
2. Develop use cases for each section. Develop as many as you can in the time
allotted. Divide your time equally between each section.
3. Use prose to describe each use case.


4. Identify the actor and system for each use case.
Next, you will discuss your answers with the class.
