Next Generation Ethernet Access and Transport Solutions
The LoopStar 700 product family delivers all
the features needed at the converged access
edge and offers a complete and cost-
effective packet-based solution for service
providers who are looking to:
• Add new revenue-producing services
• Extend and enhance their current
infrastructures
• Protect their current revenue streams
• Provide the migration path to next-
generation IP/MPLS networks
This product family uniquely combines
packet-switched and circuit-switched
services into a single architecture—at cost
points that make it extremely attractive for
offering new services to both large and small
customers. With payback times measured in
months, service providers can quickly and
efficiently consolidate all services onto a
single, converged infrastructure, without
having to cannibalize existing revenues or
create overlays on their current networks.
The LoopStar 700 product family meets
service providers’ needs to reliably scale and
manage edge services for the world’s largest
and most complex networks. Offering an
architecture specifically designed with a clear

delineation between the control plane and
the data plane, this product family can
support multiple services and transport types
on a single platform—maximizing revenue
and minimizing operational and capital costs.
This approach to hardware is married to a
service-rich software image, ensuring service
continuity and minimized operational
expense as providers deploy the various
LoopStar 700 platforms.

The LoopStar 700 Product Family
Features
• Converged packet access at the
network edge
• Complete suite of Ethernet services
and TDM services
• Proven resiliency without the usual
high costs
• Packet- and circuit-based transport
• Intelligent service management at the
multi-service demarcation point
• Protected Switching Ring (PSR) –
a low-cost, sub-50 millisecond failover

scheme for Optical Ethernet
• Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)
and Virtual Private LAN Services (VPLS)
Converged packet-based access
platforms designed to operate
at the edge of the metro and
wide area network
With customers demanding higher speed
Ethernet services at lower price points,
service providers are faced with the task of
evolving their circuit-switched backbones to
IP/MPLS-based backbones. During this
evolution, carriers will have to maintain and
continue to offer services that have been
traditionally offered over SONET/SDH,
Frame Relay and ATM circuits.
This creates a dilemma: How can providers
enable these new Ethernet services and
applications while maintaining the viability
of current services and infrastructures? With
features like Q-in-Q tag stacking, 4,095
VLANS, rate limiting, link aggregation,
multiple levels of Quality of Service (QoS),
802.1d bridging, a unique “EtherDACS”
port/VLAN switching mode and Ethernet
transport ranging from 10/100 to Gigabit
Ethernet, the LoopStar 700 allows service
providers to offer robust Ethernet services
to their customers.
The LoopStar 700 offers one of the most

comprehensive suites of pseudo-wire
Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) services
over packet-switched infrastructures.
Using standards-based circuit emulation
with patented technology, LoopStar 700
products can transport T1/E1/J1 services
with ILEC-quality.

Why LoopStar 700?
This 4-slot product is optimized for larger
customers, multi-tenant buildings and service
aggregation sites such as at the central office
or wiring center. The LoopStar 750 can also
function as an aggregation point for any of
the other members of the LoopStar 700
family.
NEBS 3 certified with redundant AC or DC
power options, this product can be
configured for any number of scenarios.
Interface cards include:
• 1 port Gigabit Ethernet (SFP)
• 8 port 100Base-FX (SM or MM)
• 8 port 10/100Base-T
• Combo 4 port 10/100Base-T and

2 port 100Base-FX (SFP)
• 1 port OC-12c/STM-4c
• 1 port OC-3c/STM-1
• 3 port DS3 with NxDS3 option
• 8 port T1/E1/J1
• 1 port Channelized DS3

LoopStar 750
Four interface slots for large customers or aggregation
For customers anticipating growth and
looking to add new services, the LoopStar 722
is an attractive option. The flexibility of a
single interface slot and a series of fixed
ports allows both service providers and end
users to minimize their initial investment and
still respond to future needs.
With fixed ports consisting of a single SFP
Gigabit Ethernet, four 10/100Base-Ts, and
two T1/E1/J1s, the LoopStar 722 can be
deployed in many locations even without the
optional interface card. As the customer’s
needs grow, the same cards used in the
LoopStar 750 can be used to scale with the
services required.
