The thesis is designed to measure and evaluate the competitiveness and stability of
Vietnamese commercial banks in the period 2010 to 2018, in the context of joining the
Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Thai Partnership. Binh Duong.
With the achieved results, the thesis has made new contributions with many theoretical
and practical values, as follows:
Firstly, the evidence from calculating, synthesizing data, and experimental
measurements in the thesis has added to the theoretical basis, as a reliable source of
reference for the research related to competitiveness and stability of Vietnamese
commercial banks in the context of integration in general and the CPTPP Agreement in
particular. On the other hand, the thesis measures the competitiveness and stability of
Vietnamese commercial banks in the period 2010 - 2018, closest to the time when
Vietnam signed the CPTPP agreement, so the results are Results obtained from the
experimental synthesis, calculation and measurement, so the arguments, statements and
policy implications made by the author have high confidence.
1
Second, the thesis uses a combination of both qualitative research methods and
quantitative research methods to increase the strength of the arguments. Specifically, the
author uses qualitative methods to argue and identify factors affecting the
competitiveness and stability of commercial banks in Vietnam, especially in the context
of integration to as a criterion for assessing the current situation, choosing the
appropriate factor to make the regression model variable, the argument to compare the
operating results of commercial banks in Vietnam with the other 10 countries' financial
systems in CPTPP. At the same time, the author conducts experimental measurements to
determine the impact of these factors on the stability and competitiveness of Vietnamese
commercial banks. Synthesizing the above results, the author applied the SWOT model
to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities as well as challenges for Vietnamese
commercial banks when participating in the CPTPP, thereby proposing Appropriate
policy implications to enhance competitiveness and enhance stability for Vietnamese
commercial banks when joining the CPTPP agreement.
Third, in the context of CPTPP integration, the competitiveness and stability of the
bank will be influenced by foreign credit institutions in Vietnam, so in the thesis, in
particular, In the experimental figure, the author gives the factor of the number of
foreign bank branches and the proportion of total assets of foreign banks in the whole
credit system to assess the level and direction of impact of foreign banks.
competitiveness and banking stability in the country. On the other hand, in the empirical
model, the author uses the dummy variable to distinguish between banks with Stateowned investment capital and banks with 100% capital without State participation to
clarify the level of weak impact. The dominant management factor from the State to
competitiveness and banking stability in the context of integration can help the banking
industry's managers have a multidimensional angle to adjust the level of intervention
and governance. to suit the new situation.
Fourth, the comparison between Vietnamese commercial banks and the financial
systems of the remaining 10 member countries in the CPTPP based on a number of
specific macro indicators is a very practical point to identify strengths, weaknesses,
prospects and competitive pressures that Vietnamese commercial banks are facing. This
has important implications for bank administrators to be cautious in formulating
appropriate strategies and policies to enhance the competitiveness and stability of
Vietnamese commercial banks in the context of CPTPP integration.
2
Fifth, the policy implications given by the author on the basis of the specific research
results of the thesis can be a reliable source of reference for managers, banking strategic
planners to develop mobilizing strengths, overcoming weaknesses, taking advantage of
opportunities in a timely manner and actively responding to challenges in enhancing
competitiveness and enhancing stability for Vietnamese commercial banks in the
context of economic integration. internationalization in general and CPTPP in particular.
