Read the passage and decide whether each of the statements are True (A) or False (B)

On 18th October 2009, 16-year-old Jessica Watson set out to do something no one her age had ever
done before - to sail around the world alone without any help. She started her trip in Sydney, Australia, on
her ten-metre boat and after seven long months alone at sea she finally ended up back in Sydney Harbour
on 15th May 2010. As expected, she got a hero's welcome, with thousands of people there to greet her,
including 18-year-old Mike Perham. Perham had sailed around the world the previous year at the age of
17.

When she was asked why she wanted to make this difficult journey, Jessica simply answered that she
wanted to do something to be proud of. But her trip did not end as well as she had hoped. Instead of
listing her as the youngest person to ever sail around the world alone, the World Speeding Sailing Record
Council said she needed to have sailed 2000 nautical miles more than she did to break the world record.
After hearing this, Jessica wrote in her blog, 'If I haven't been sailing around the world, then it beats me
what I've been doing out here all this time.'

Question 35. In an experiment carried out in Canada, students in the interactive class scored nearly

twice higher those in the traditional class when they did the same test.

B C D

Read the passage and choose the best answer

The Amazon is the world's largest tropical rainforest. It is roughly the size of the continent of
Australia and covers an area of nearly 2.8 million square miles. The vast forest consists of four layers,
each featuring its own ecosystems and specially adapted plants and animals.

The forest floor is the lowest region. Since only two percent of the sunlight can filter through the
top layers to the understory very few plants grow there. The forest floor, however, is rich with rotting
vegetation and bodies of dead animals which quickly break down and get integrated into the soil as
nutrients.

The understory is the layer above the forest floor. Much like the forest floor, only about 2 to 5
percent of the sunlight reaches this shadowy realm. Many of the plants in the understory have large, broad
leaves to collect as much sunlight as possible. The understory is so thick that there is very little air
movement. As a result, plants rely on insects and animals to pollinate their flowers.

The layer above the understory is the canopy. This is where much of the action in the rainforest
occurs. The canopy is where the wealth of the rainforest's fruits and flowers grow.

The emergent layer is above the canopy, and is the top layer of the rainforest. Trees in the emergent
layer break through the canopy and may reach heights of 200 feet and are massive. Many animals that
survive in the emergent layer never touch the ground.

Question 36. The Amazon Rainforest covers an area nearly the size of the continent of _____.

A. Africa B. Australia C. Antarctica D. North America

Question 37. Why do few plants grow in the forest floor?

A. There is not enough sunlight. B. Their leaves are too large.

C. There is not enough water. D. There is not enough nutrients.
Question 38. Why do plants in the understory have to rely on insects to pollinate them?

A. There is very little air in the understory.

B. The wind is too strong and seeds blow into the Amazon River.

C. The sun is too bright in the understory.

D. There are very few butterflies in the rainforest.

Question 39. Most of the fruits and flowers of the rainforest grow in its _______.

A. understory B. forest floor C. canopy D. emergent

Question 40. Which of the following is NOT a layer of the rainforest?

A. understory B. emergent C. sub-canopy D. canopy
