<b> 2. Language: - Vocabulary on football.</b> - The simple past tense.
<b> 3. Skills: - Listening: Listen and fill in the table, and answer the questions.</b>
- Speaking: Talk about important events in Pele's life.
<b>II. Anticipated problems: name of Pele.</b>
<b>III. Teaching aids: Tape, cassette player, textbook, chalk, board.</b>

- Ask one st to talk about some World Cup tournaments.
- Listen and give remarks.
<b>2. Before you listen: (12mins)</b>
<i>Aims: to focus sts on the topic and to review/ introduce</i>
<i>the words and phrases used in the listening text.</i>
<i><b>a. Ask sts to work in groups and talk about their </b></i>
favourite football players, the name of their football
<i><b>- Ask sts to work in groups again to look at the pictures </b></i>
in the textbook and discuss the football players in the
pictures.

<b> 3. While you listen: (17 mins)</b>
<i><b>+ Task 1:</b></i>
<i>Aims: Sts practise listening for specific information by</i>
<i>filling in a table.</i>
- Tell sts that they are going to listen to a talk about
Pele.
- Ask sts to have a look at the table in pairs and make
sure they know what information they need to fill in the
blanks.
- Ask sts to listen to the tape twice and take short notes
to fill in the table.
- Ask sts to compare their answers in pairs.
- Ask some sts to report.
- Play the tape once again, stop the tape where necessary
and conduct the correction.
- One st presents.
- Others listen and give remark.
- Work in groups to talk about their
favourite football players
- Discuss the players in the pictures

table and the answers in Task 2 to talk about important

- Move round to check the activities and to make sure
that sts are working effectively.
- Ask some sts to present in front of the whole class.
- Check and give remarks.

- Write a short paragraph about Pele.
