U3. On Sunday, Ba invited Liz to join his family on a day trip to his home village about


60 kms to the north of Ha Noi. The village lies near the foot of a mountain and a river. Many people go
there on weekends to have a rest after hard working week.


The journey to the village is very interesting. People have the chance to travel between the green
paddy fields and cross a small bamboo forest before they reach a big old banyan tree at the entrance to
the village.



Liz met Ba's family at his house early in the morning; and after two hours, traveling by bus, they
reached the big old tree. Everyone felt tired and hungry, so they sat down the tree and had a snack.


After the meal, they started to walk into the village for about 30 minutes to visit Ba's uncle. Then,

the afternoon, they went boating in the river and had a picnic on the river bank before going home late in
the evening. It was an enjoyable day. Liz took a lot of photos to show the trip to her parents.

I think watching TV is very useful. The new program, for example, tell me the latest events all over the
world. There are many education programs such as Learning English through songs, discover the
wildlife, etc. I can learn a lot from these programs.

I don’t like watching TV. I think watching TV too much makes us lazy. Instead of doing exercise or
playing physical games, a lot of children now prefer to sit in front of the TV all day. Many of them have
become short-sighted because of spending too much time on TV. Besides there are violent programs on
TV that badly affect the children’s spiritual health.

I hate watching TV. There isn’t any worth seeing on television today. There are too many commercial
programs,, and the quality shows are become fewer and fewer.

In my opinion, TV is a great source of entertainment. I often watch movies on TV. It is more convenient
and cheaper than going to the theatre. There are also many game shows and music channels on TV. Just
give me a TV set and I don’t need to go out!

Solar energy is a long lasting source of energy, and it can be used almost anywhere. To generate solar
energy, and it can be used, we only need solar cells and the sun! Solar cells can easily be installed on


house roofs, so we don’t need any new space. Compared to other renewable sources, they also possess
many advantages: wind and water power rely on turbines which are noisy, expensive and which take up
large space. Solar cells are totally silent and no polluting. As they have no moving parts, they require

The earth has volcanoes because it is hot inside. In some places it is hot enough to turn solid rock.
Geologists call the liquid rock magma. The magma rises towards the surface because it is less dense than
