Đây là một số luật lệ về cách dùng Say và Tell mà chúng ta hay nhầm lẫn
Say and tell have similar meanings. They both mean to communicate
verbally with someone. But we often use them differently,.Say hoặc tell có
cùng nghĩa để thông tin với ai đó nhưng ta dùng với cách khác nhau:
The simple way to think of say and tell is: Cách đơn giản dễ nghĩ về Say và
Tell
là:
* You say something Anh nói một điều gì đó.
* You tell someone something Anh kể với ai một điều gì đó.
* Ram said that he was tired.Ram nói rằng anh ấy rất mệt.
* Ram told Jane that he was tired.Ram kể với Jane rằng anh ấy rất mệt.
* Anthony says you have a new job.Anthony nói anh có một công việc mới.
* Anthony tells me you have a new job.Anthony kể với tôi rằng anh có một
công việc mới.
* Tara said: "I love you." Tara nói “ em yêu anh”
* Tara told John that she loved him.Tara nói với Tom rằng cô ấy yêu hắn.
But, of course, it is not always so easy. Here are a few rules to help you.

Personal object
We usually follow tell with a personal object (the person that we are
speaking to). We usually use say without a personal object:Chúng ta thường

Say "to someone"
With say, we sometimes use "to someone": voi Say chung ta thuong dung

* He said to me that he was tired. Anh ay noi voi toi rang anh ay met

Direct speech
We can use say with direct speech. We use tell only with direct speech that
is an instruction or information:Chung ta co the dung Say voi loi noi truc

* Amanda said, "Hello John. How are you?" Amanda noi “chao John
“Anh the nao” “

* She told me, "I have never been to England." Co ay noi voi toi “toi chua

We can use say with direct questions, but we cannot use tell: Chung ta co the
dung Say voi cau hoi truc tiep,nhung chung ta khong the dung tell
* She said: "Do you love me?" co ay noi “anh co yeu toi khong ?”
* The policeman said to the prisoner, "Where were you at 8pm?" vien

Reported speech Cau tuong thuat
We can use say and tell to talk about reported information: chung ta co the
dung Say hoac tell de tuong thuat thong tin
* She said that it was raining. Co ay noi rang Troi dang mua
* She told me that she would call at 2pm. Co ay noi voi toi rang co ay se

We cannot use say or tell to talk about reported questions. We must use ask
(or a similar verb): chung ta khong dung say hoac la tell de tuong thuat cau

* She asked if I had ever been there. Co ay hoi co phai toi da tung den do

* They asked what I wanted to eat. Ho hoi toi muon an cai gi
* She asked where he lived. Co ay hoi noi han ta sinh song

Orders, advice
We use tell + object + infinitive for orders or advice: chung ta dung tell voi

* She told him to sit down. Co ay bao han ngoi xuong
* They told me not to wait. Ho noi voi toi dung nen cho

Phrases
Here are a few fixed phrases with tell. We cannot use say with these phrases:

* tell (someone) a story
* tell (someone) a lie
* tell (someone) the truth
* tell the future (= to know what the future will bring)
* tell the time (= know how to read a clock)
