TAG QUESTIONS
INTRODUCTION
Question tag
a. Trước khẳng định, sau phủ định và ngược lại
Ex:
Peter helped you, didn’t he?
He isn’t here now, is he?
You have been there for a long time, haven’t you?
b. Note:
• Không dùng danh từ riêng trong câu hỏi đuôi, mà phải dung đại từ nhân xưng
thay thế.
Ex:
Mary is beautiful, isn’t she?
Chứ không được dùng Mary is beautiful, isn’t Mary?
His parents are old, aren’t they?
• Khi chủ từ trong mệnh đề chính là anyone, anybody, no one, no body,
none, neither thì chủ từ trong câu hỏi đuôi là they.
Ex:
No one knows, do they?
Neither of them complaint, did they?
• Nếu mệnh đề chính có các từ phủ định như neither, no, none, no one, no
body, nothing, scarely, barely, hardly, seldom … thì câu hỏi đuôi ở thể
khẳng định.
Ex:
Nothing was sold, was it?
Peter hardly goes to the party, does he?
• Nếu chủ từ là this, that thì chủ từ trong câu hỏi đuôi có thể là it, he, she
Ex: That is a very interesting film, isn’t it?
That is your new boy friend, isn’t he?
This is a very beautiful girl, isn’t she?
• Nếu chủ từ là these, those thì chủ từ trong câu hỏi đuôi là they
Ex: These books are new, aren’t they?
• Hình thức câu hỏi đuôi của I am … là aren’t I? hay am I not?
Ex: I’m late, aren’t I?
Hay I’m late, am I not?
• Hình thức của câu yêu cầu là will you? còn câu đề nghị là shall we?
Ex:
Come in, will you?
Don’t do that, will you?
Let’s go for a walk, shall we?
Let’s not study now, shall we?

Câu hỏi đuôi là loại câu hỏi được them vào sau một câu nói. Nếu câu nói
là khẳng đònh thì phần đuôi là phủ đònh và ngược lại

I. TAG QUESTIONS ( AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES )
We use tag questions to ask a question or to invite con firmation of some fact we already
know. We always use a negative tag question after an affirmative sentence.
He can speak English, can't he ?
She is an American, isn't she ?
You live in Soc Trang , don't you ?
They went home, didn't they ?

Notes on the form of tag questions:
1. a tag question is a short question ( e.g. have you ? / haven't you ? ) that follow a
statement . Auxiliaries ( be, have, can, may,...)used in the statement are repeated at
the end followed by the subject ( always a pronoun ).
.John was annoyed , wasn't he ?
.He wasn't annoyed , was he ?
2. With all other verbs, tag questions are formed with do / don't ; does / doesn't ; and
did / didn't.
