<i>At fist, we need to understand the concept of “voiced” and “voiceless” sound.</i>
<i>A voiced sound is spoken when you the sound comes from the end of your throat.</i>
<i>A voiceless sound is spoken when the sound does not come from the end of your </i>
<i>throat, but indeed by the formation of your tongue, lips, or teeth altogether.</i>

Cách phát âm những âm tận cùng là ‘s’/ ‘es’ dựa trên âm cuối cùng của từ trước
khi thêm ‘s’/ ‘es’.

Chúng ta cần phải hiểu được khái niệm âm hữu thanh và âm vô thanh.

 <b>Âm hữu thanh là âm thoát ra từ cổ họng khi phát âm: /b/, /d/, /g/, </b>
<b>/v/, /ð/, /m/, /n/, /l/, /r/, / w/, /y/, /j/, /ŋ/. </b>

 <b>Âm vô thanh không đi ra từ cổ họng mà thực chất được tạo nên từ sự phối </b>
hợp của lưỡi, môi, hoặc răng: / p, t , k, f , θ/

<i><b>Nguyên tắc sau khi đã thêm ‘s’/ ‘es’:</b></i>

<b>1. Phát âm là /s/: khi đi sau các phụ âm vô thanh / p, t , k, f , θ/</b>
Ex: stops = stop + /s/

Works = work + /s/

laughs, thinks, stops, cats, months, books, walks, cups, tenths, wants, roofs, rocks,
physics, paragraphs,...

<b>2. Phát âm là /z/: khi đi sau các phụ âm hữu thanh /b/, /d/, /g/, /v/, /ð/, </b>
<b>/m/, /n/, /l/, /r/, / w/, /y/, /j/, /ŋ/ hoặc các nguyên âm /a, e, i, o, u/</b>
Ex: robs = rob + /z/

calls = call + /z/
goes = go + /z/

beds, pigs, arrives, bathes, boys, lies, ways, pubs, words,loves, rooms, turns, things,
walls, cars. ..

<b>3. Phát âm là /iz/: khi đi sau 6 âm: s, z, ∫ , ʒ, t∫, dʒ </b>
Ex: washes = wash + /iz/

Changes = change + /iz/

watches [wɔt∫iz], judges [`dʒʌdʒiz], wishes [wi∫iz] , classes, boxes, breezes,
churches, refuses, passes…

* Note: Một số danh từ số ít tận cùng bằng /ce, se, ge/ => số nhiều chỉ thêm ‘s’ và
phát âm là /iz/

Ex: voices [vɔisiz]

sentence -> sentences ['sentənsiz]
house -> houses [hausiz ]

rose -> roses [rouziz]
page -> pages [peidʒiz]
