The Pijantjara people have lived for thousands of years in the Western Desert of Australia. The land is
crossed by sand dunes, the soil is bright red, spinifex and desert grasses grow every where and date
palms flourish along the dunes. Some main animals exist here such as kangaroos, snakes, lizards and
jackals. The tools carried by the desert people are lightweight and multi-purpose. Women carry large
wooden dishes and a small smooth stone which is used with a large grinding stone for crushing seeds.
Men carry spears, thrower, a club, and a small knife made of sharpened stone.
