Ask Ss to say some proverbs about
friendship in Vietnamese.
Ask 2 Ss to answer each question.
Activity 1: Before you read.
• Divide the class into small groups
• Ask groups to practice talking
• Go around the class to monitor and
support.
• Ask Ss to present their speaking.
• Comment Ss’ speaking, correct their
mistakes and answer questions if
they are asked.

Hi. Everyone. My name is...I’ll tell
you about one of my best friends, Teddy.

Teddy has been my friend since we were
in grade 6. But I have not seen him for 5
years, though we have been writing
to each other since then. Teddy moved to
New York with his mother 5 years ago.
His parents divorced. Now he is living
with his mother and step-father in New
York. Although Teddy is a quiet boy, he
attracts other people by his modesty,
casualty and kindness. I feel very happy
to have a friend like him.
Activity 2: Learning some new words
- Ss take note all the new words and
introduce some more
- Practice pronunciation under the
teacher’s guides.
- Read the text to have general ideas of the
reading passage.
- Raise questions raise questions when
misunderstanding.

T repairs a hangout with network of
the word “friendship”
T divides the class into 8 groups and
gives each group a hand out. T asks Ss
to complete the net work. The winner
will be the group completing the

• Ask some Ss to read the text
loudly.
• Follow and take note mistakes on
spelling and pronunciation.
• Correct Ss’ mistakes and read the

text loudly once.
• Introduce Ss tasks to do after
reading the text.

• Divide the class into small groups
• Ask groups to go over exercises

Discuss about the qualities which
friendship must have to complete the

Expected answer

As far as I see this proverb mean that a
person who is willing to stand beside you
when you are in bad time or good time is a
good friend.
- I think that a good friend is a person who
shares the same interests with me. He’ She
is also a person who encourages me to
overcome my difficulties. Give me some
advice while I have a stuck. He is always
constant and loyal to me, so he/she cannot
be influenced by rumors and gossips...
