During the preinstallation and deployment process, you can configure and
install Windows 2000 Professional and applications on new or existing
computers. OEM system builders preinstall Windows 2000 Professional and
applications before delivering new equipment to customers. The preinstallation
process allows OEM system builders to test, configure, and brand the computer.
Preinstallation also controls the experience the customer has when turning on
the computer for the first time. For example, during initial startup, the customer
only needs to accept the Microsoft End User License Agreement (EULA), enter
the CD Key, and add user information.
Information technology (IT) professionals deploy Windows 2000 Professional
and applications to users within an organization or department. IT specialists
must also test and configure computers based on user needs. Typically, these
specialists deploy Windows 2000 Professional so that little or no user input is
needed when users first log on.
To preinstall and deploy Windows 2000 Professional on new or existing
computers, use one or a combination of the following three methods:
Automate an installation of Windows 2000 Professional by using an answer
file. The answer file allows you to preinstall and deploy Windows 2000
Professional on new or existing computers that require the same or similar
configurations.
Create Windows Installer packages to deploy necessary or specified
applications. Windows Installer packages allow you to install applications
by using Windows 2000 Professional.
Create and deploy an image of a configured installation, including the
operating system, custom settings, and applications. Images are useful for
installing Windows 2000 Professional and applications on new or existing
computers that share the same hardware configuration.
Slide Objective

for preinstalling and
deploying Windows 2000
Professional.

and deployment process,
you can install and configure
Windows 2000 Professional
and applications on multiple

and deployment.
Describe the benefits
of preinstallation and
deployment. Refer to
the student notes for
supporting details.
