scenario focusing on the business object attributes and relationships.
First, you will identify the attributes of the business objects.
Next, you will identify the relationships between the business objects.
Objectives
After completing this activity, you will be able to:
!
Analyze a usage scenario and determine candidate business object attributes
and relationships for use in the solution design.

Before You Begin
This activity includes both small group tasks and class discussion.
This activity is a class discussion.

34 Activity 5.3: Identifying Attributes and Relationships

Exercise 1: Identifying Business Object Attributes ( 20 minutes)
!
Identify business object attributes
1. Participate in small groups as assigned by the instructor.
2. Review the preliminary business object model.
3. Review the future-state usage scenario.
4. Analyze the usage scenario for business object properties.
5. Write the related properties on a self-stick note.
6. Attach the self-stick note to the appropriate business object.
7. Extrapolate other attributes from the current list of business objects,
services, and attributes that may not have been explicitly listed in the usage
scenario.

Activity 5.3: Identifying Attributes and Relationships 35

Exercise 2: Identifying Business Object Relationships (20 min)
!
Identify candidate relationships
1. Participate in small groups as assigned by the instructor.
2. Review the future-state consultant usage scenario.
3. Analyze the usage scenario for verbs that describe associations between
business objects.

4. Organize the self-stick notes on the flip chart such that the relationships can
be diagrammed.
5. Either write directly on the flip chart or use another set of self-stick notes to
indicate the relationships between objects.
6. For interaction type relationships, it is important to note which services
interact with which services as that will help later on during physical design.
7. Determine if any new services or attributes are required to support the
relationships identified above.

At conclusion of this activity, you will have a rough logical model of one aspect
of the solution indicating the business objects, their attributes and services, and
the relationships among the business objects.
After completing the above steps, you will discuss your responses with the
class. The instructor will write the class consensus on a flip chart.
