E1 DSX Front Cross-Connect Solutions
The Complete DDF Solution
E1 DSX Front Cross-Connect Solutions
The ETSI E1 DSX Product Family
The Application
The Digital Signal Cross-connect (DSX) ETSI 2.048 Mbps family of products is ideal
for Digital Distribution Frame (DDF) applications where cross-connecting, patching,
testing and monitoring is required between two network elements.
The Products
The ETSI Skeleton Bay is the basis
of ADC’s E1 DSX product offering.
The fully assembled bay meets
the standard ETSI 600mm wide x
2200mm tall footprint. The fuse
panel and all the necessary cable
management are factory installed
in the bay making installation and
ordering fast and easy. DSX panels
are added in the field as needed. The
ETSI skeleton bay is compatible with
all ADC 64 termination DSX panels
(FlexDSX™, PxPlus™ and DSX 64).
A total of 768 twisted pair or coaxial
terminations fit in each bay.

and DSX 64 Solutions
FlexDSX:
FlexDSX offers four-port jack
access with dual monitor for
applications where the cross-
connect may be located far
away or is inaccessible such as in
collocation applications. The dual
monitor port also allows for fast
isolation of problems as both sides
of the circuit can be accessed easily
from one termination. The jacks
are individually removable and
the backplane terminations are
removable in groups of four.
PxPlus:
Ideal for applications requiring
3 port jack access and true cost
deferment as equipment cables
can be preterminated and jacks can be added as needed. If the chassis has more than 60% of its terminations
turned up within one year, DSX 64 may be a better choice for a high growth environment.
DSX 64:
Ideal for applications where individual circuit modularity is not required. DSX 64 is a fixed 64 circuit panel with
three port jack access.
Common Panel Features
• 64 terminations per panel (Balun and twisted pair) - matches 2.048 Mbps equipment cabling breakouts
• All panels mount into the ADC ETSI skeleton bay IBF-RSC007 – one platform for all applications
• Tracer LED – eliminates manual tracing of cross-connect wires for fast circuit identification
• Oversized labels – for complete circuit identification
• In-service patching and circuit rearrangement – allows circuit maintenance to be completed during
business hours without downtime by using ADC’s bridging office repeaters (Call your local ADC sales
office for more information)
• Balun terminations – increases density by converting 75 ohm equipment cables to 120 ohm for cross-
connecting while still providing the flexibility of DSX jack access. Available in BNC and 1.6/5.6

Four-Port (Dual Monitor) Jack Access
FlexDSX is the only DSX panel in the industry that
offers individual removable jacks, removable IN/OUT
equipment cable terminations, and four port (bi-
directional) test access capabilities. The four port jack
system consists of IN and OUT jacks for direct access
to the network element’s input and output signals,
and DUAL MONITOR jacks for monitoring of the
signal in both directions simultaneously at a single
location. Dual monitors are especially beneficial for
testing when the other side of the cross-connect is
located far away, in another room, or is inaccessible
(ie: collocation).

Three-Port Individual Jack Modularity
The PxPlus panel was designed for E1 DSX
cross-connect applications where individual jack
modularity is required. The PxPlus system consists of
a 64 circuit empty panel and individual three port
jack access cards that are sold separately. The empty
panel can be loaded into the bay and precabled.
When service is ready to be turned up, the PxPlus
jack cards are installed into the panel providing for
true cost deferment.
