1. Purpose / Target:
The cupping serves to determine the behavior of a painting with certain deformation of the
background evaluate and thus the elasticity of the painting.

2. Description of the procedure:
2.1) Testing sets
Testing set according to Erichsen (specifications according to DIN ISO 1520)

2.2) Execution
The coated sample sheet metal into the testing set between stencil and compressor rod one
clamps. Now the feed is switched on and observed in the microscope the developing cupping.
As soon as the first breaks in the coating become visibly the feed will be stopped
immediately.

2.3) Analysis

Cupping is called the way of the tappet from the zero position to the position with the first
recognizable cracking. This value is read off from the display of the testing set.
