Có 2 qui tắc cơ bản về trọng âm của từ: + mỗi từ có một trọng âm duy nhất + Chỉ có trọng âm ở nguyên âm chứ không có ở phụ âm. Sau đây là một vài quy tắc tương đối đơn giản hơn có thể giúp chúng ta biết được cách đặt đúng trọng âm từ.
