Warm greetings to you. My name is Kirk VandenBerghe, and I’ll be your guide as I interview
Alana, who is conveyed by my partner and soul mate, Sandy Breckenridge. We are presenting
a six-step learning experience which is designed to help you learn to further develop, access,
and trust your intuition.
First, a word about channeling: If you’re like many people who have experienced
channeling, you’ve probably had both positive and negative experiences. Sadly, many
channeled energies have agendas of power and control over others. We hope that your
experience with Alana is a breath of fresh air. We trust that you’ll sense our desire to
empower your intuition—your direct connection with Spirit—rather than tell you what’s true
or what you should do. Our purpose is simply to help you learn to trust your heart.
As we begin our discourse, note that Sandy has already blended with and will be conveying
Alana-Heart as she answers the questions I present throughout this series.
Who is Alana? Can you please describe this heart energy?
Alana-Being is all heart…
• If you feel the part of your nature that has the willingness to hold love, you will find
your heart.
• If you feel the part of you that holds desire, you will feel your heart.
• If you feel the part of you that has the capability to know yourself, you will feel your
heart.
• If you feel wise in the world, in the universe, and in creation, you will feel your heart.

Alana-Tone is this same vibration coming forth so that you may know your heart. You see,
many have asked to feel and remember their core vibration, which is their heart. So Alana-tone
willingly comes forth, blended with Sandy-Being, to be a mirror of you. Alana is here to play.
Alana, what is channeling?
Channeling is the willingness to allow your grander self—grander essence, grander parts of
the universe—to be made conscious to, blended with, or verbalized from your being.
Recognize that we channel many different aspects of our nature.
We channel our…
• Minds
• Hearts
• Feelings
• Emotions
• Parts of our self
• Child parts
• Parents
We are channeling all of the time.
When you see verbal communication, like Alana-Being conveyed through Sandy, it is just that
intention has brought forth this nature, this tone, and this allowing. Practice, with willingness,
does allow things like this to occur, you know.
*************
In Chapter 1 we will discuss the first of the six steps for developing intuition, grounding. As
with anything else, the person who is well grounded is more likely to be successful at
developing her or his intuition.

All of us have heard and used the word intuition without thinking what the word truly means
and how powerful it can be. Thus, my question for Alana:
What is intuition?
It is important for me to mention that intuition is always present. Accessing our intuition
provides a way for us to take in, and be aware of, our sensory guidance by embracing our
sensitivities. As we develop our ability to tune in and connect with these subtle energies, we
develop a most wonderful and useful skill. We become capable of being guided by the wisdom
that comes from our inner senses through the subtle messages we receive.
As we develop a greater connection with intuition, we will more easily be able to connect with
Spirit, our Angels, and additional guides. Intuition is a powerful form for gathering
information that can be put to many uses in our day-to-day living. I must also mention that
when we are creative, our intuition is very present.
Since intuition is always present, why do so many of us have trouble receiving or trusting
these intuitive messages?
Though every person has the ability to develop his or her intuition, some people receive a
clearer signal than others. The reason this happens is because some people embrace their
sensitivities, and the information that is transmitted to them is more easily translated from their
deeper senses. In contrast, other people become much more focused on their mental realms.
They give more value to the attachments they have to their mental dialogues.
The more individuals are grounded and centered, (centering will be discussed in the next
chapter), the easier it is for them to embrace and allow their subtle sensitivities to arise in their
attention. The more people practice becoming mentally aware of that which is beyond their
minds, the more they will be able to be guided by the wonderful, wise aspects of their full
natures!
In other words, intuition is the process of allowing information that originates from the
background
, outside someone’s awareness, to come into the foreground, inside the
person’s awareness?
Yes, that’s a wonderful way to put it!

Thanks. Where do you feel is the best place to begin developing one’s intuition?
First we must set our mental judgments aside and plan on having fun! We must learn to
disengage, (not
discard), the aspects of our mental reasoning that love to catalog and
categorize. These aspects of our being often discount the subtle intuitive messages that we
receive and label them as imagination. As we play with practicing our intuition, it doesn’t
matter if we receive from our imagination. It’s okay to make things up! By temporarily setting
aside our mind’s labels, we can actually create a safe space to explore, have fun, and exercise
our senses.
Imagine that we are joining a summer camp for youth. In this camp we are going to engage in
recreation. Through play and lightness, we are going to explore our intuition in a very fun and
enjoyable way. We are going to reserve our mental judgments for tasks that transform
judgment into discernment. We are going to set aside those aspects and ask them to refrain
from limiting what we perceive through our senses.
Later in this series we will encourage the mind to become a wonderful questioner so that it
can instill and stir up a greater desire to learn how to become aware of our intuition. The mind
and its mental processing is not
the enemy of intuitive development. In future lessons we’ll
learn how to befriend all
aspects of our being, especially any judgmental or critical parts.
Now that we have the basis for our exploration defined, we can begin developing our intuition
by having a wonderful intention to do so.
Is that intention to let go of judgment and our mind’s limiting beliefs and to allow
ourselves to play like a child?
Yes. In a sense, the development of intuition is an art form. It is a skill and something an
individual can develop through having an intention to do so. Children are so very creative.
Who knows better how to play than a child?
Let’s start with grounding, the first of our six steps in developing intuition. Define and
describe what you mean by grounding.
Grounding is an implied action that invokes a state of being. Essentially, when we are
grounded, we move into a state of being. When an individual identifies with the elements of
grounding, she/he becomes aware of her/his physical body and its connection to Mother
Earth. Grounding is a state where individuals become connected to the present moment while
noticing their physical bodies and becoming aligned with, and aware of, their connections to
the earth.
So we literally “come to our senses” in the present moment. Let’s suppose someone is
having a very busy day and the person has a lot on his/her mind. Is there something
tangible a person can do to move into this state of groundedness?

Yes. The first things a person can do are to exhale deeply and then take a nice deep breath.
Breathing deeply is a natural method to begin connecting the body to Mother Earth. As they
become conscious of their breathing, they will automatically begin livening their senses. They
can begin to notice their bodies…their toes, knees, elbows, nose, and so on. Then they can
begin to become aware of the space within which their bodies exist.
As people become aware of their beautiful bodies and the body’s connection to Mother Earth,
they can invite their senses to awaken to this connection. They can do this in many ways. For
instance, a person could feel his/her body sitting in a chair and then notice his/her feet touching
the ground. The person could next sense a cord connecting him/her to Mother Earth. There’s
no one right way to ground, and creativity is encouraged.
Can you say a little more about how we can invoke our senses to become even more
engaged in the process?
Yes. While intending to notice the body and its connection to the earth, one can become aware
which of the five senses comes up in one’s thoughts. For some people, it will be quite
kinesthetic, involving the sense of touch. For example, as they ground they may feel more
solid and a bit heavier. Or they may notice lightness and a sensation in their hearts as they
begin to feel calm and serene. A lovely way to ground may be to connect with one’s pet, hold
it in her/his lap, and lovingly stroke its fur. Doing so can bring these people to the moment and
connect them to their senses. Nature has a wonderful way of invoking connection.
Another person may be more visual; this person’s perceptions may notice more acutely the
leaves on the trees and the beauty around him/her. Or visually oriented people may visualize
and sense their bodies from a bird’s-eye view. One might see her/his body in the chair, then
notice the chair’s connection to the floor, the floor’s connection to the foundation of the home,
and finally the foundation’s connection to the earth.
Still another person may prefer to connect more through his/her sense of hearing, becoming
aware and grounded by sensing the wind moving through the trees and the subtle noises in the
neighborhood.
Yet another may enjoy the sense of smell and engage with the essence of flowers floating
through the breeze. Even the sense of taste can be used to ground energy in the present
moment. And of course, we can combine awareness of our various senses.
In this first step where we learn to ground, it is very beautiful that the senses that deliver us
intuitive information are invoked through our intention to ground.
As we learn to ground, we can notice which combinations of our five senses we tend to
favor. But what if a person has a hard time identifying what her/his preferred sense is?
What would you suggest to this individual?
6

I suggest that these individuals explore their different senses, play, and have fun! By exploring
their various senses, people will usually find one or two senses that are more exciting for them
to explore.
Could you summarize the process and what you are inviting people to practice so that
they are ready to move onto the second step (centering and releasing)?
Yes. I am inviting people to form an intention to connect with their intuition while having
fun. This is the suggested overall intention of the entire series.
Pretend, imagine, and play. Don’t get serious or make a big deal out of this process.
Instead, allow it to be like a fun recreational experience and adventure. After creating this fun,
playful space of willingness and openness, continue by practicing moving into a grounded
state. Begin with the breath by exhaling fully, then breathing deeply while noticing the
awakening of the senses. The repetitive breaths will support an individual in coming into the
Now. Notice the connection to Mother Earth in whatever ways that arise.
Can you provide some tangible examples?
Sure. Someone might find that listening to some melodic music and dancing heighten his or
her senses. Another person might connect to her/his body, the earth, and the present moment
by playing with her/his dog or cat. Then there is also meditation, such as sitting in a chair,
becoming aware of each breath, and directing thoughts into the present moment. It is
important to allow the imagination space to play
. From this feeling of lightness people can
discover how many ways they can invoke states where their natures feel grounded, present,
and connected to Mother Earth.
Have a joyous experience, everyone! Practice through play. Now I have a question for you,
Kirk.
Do you know why angels can fly?
No. Why can angels fly?
Because they take themselves lightly!
*************
As Alana says, please practice through play. What she has shared with us in this chapter will
also prepare us for the second step, which is covered in Chapter 2. There we will learn to
center our being more deeply and release our limitations.

Alana, is there anything you would like to add for those who experienced difficulty in
applying the exercises covered in the previous chapter?
Yes, Kirk. I have a wonderful list of suggested affirmations that can help empower people in
their intent to ground. I feel these affirmations will assist greatly with grounding and building
momentum for future steps in this series. I invite everyone to read them all at once, whether
aloud or silently to themselves. After consciously affirming them for a while, the following
affirmations can easily become unconscious intentions.
• I am aware of the present moment...
• I am aware of what I see, outside and inside...
• I am aware of what I hear, outside and inside…
• I am aware of what I taste and smell…
• I am aware of how my body feels…
• My senses are centered within my body…
• My energy is connected to the earth’s energy.
Very good. The affirmations acknowledge and create a wonderful bridge to lead us to
the next step, where we become centered in our bodies and release any blockages that
might get in the way of accessing and developing our intuitive senses. This leads us to
the next step in developing intuition: Centering and releasing
. Alana, would you
introduce us to this step?
Yes. We want to fully create a space within our beings in which to allow our intuition room to
express. After we have moved into a grounded, centered state, we must get in touch with
aspects of our nature that might place limits on our ability to access our intuition.
Tell us more about this. What might hold us back?
Many things. Limitations can include fear, doubt, expectation, control, attachment, block,
opinion, judgment, scarcity, etc.
I have a concern regarding this step. Could someone get stuck at this point by spending
too much time analyzing rather than deepening and realizing intuitive abilities?
Yes, if we stay in the mind and analyze, we will surely block the flow. We are actually more
interested in creating the space to notice what limiting responses we may have. Then we
can easily balance what we notice by breathing through the limiting energy, which will dispel
its efforts to stop the flow of our intuition.
