Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to
indicate the correct answer to each of the questions from 36 to 42.
Animation traditionally is done by hand- drawing or painting successive frame of
an object, each slightly different than the proceeding frame. In computer animation,
although the computer may be the one to draw the different frames, in most cases the
artist will draw the beginning and ending frames and the computer will produce the
drawings between the first and the last drawing. This is generally referred to as computerassisted animation, because the computer is more of a helper than an originator.
In full computer animation, complex mathematical formulas are used to produce the
final sequences of pictures. These formulas operate on extensive databases of numbers
that defines the objects in the pictures as they exist in mathematical space. The database
consists of endpoints, and color and intensity information. Highly trained professionals
are needed to produce such effects because animation that obtains high degrees of realism

involves computer techniques from three- dimensional transformation, shading, and
curvatures.
High- tech computer animation for film involves very expensive computer systems
along with special color terminals or frame buffers. The frame buffer is nothing more
than a giant image memory for viewing a single frame. It temporarily holds the image for
display on the screen.
A camera can be used to film directly from the computer’s display screen, but for the
highest quality images possible, expensive film recorders are used. The computer
computers the position and colors for the figures in the picture, and sends this
information to the recorder, which captures it on film. Sometimes, however, the images
are stored on a large magnetic disk before being sent to the recorder. Once this process is
completed, it is replaced for the next frame. When the entire sequence has been recorded
on the film, the film must be developed before the animation can be viewed. If the entire
sequence does not seem right, the motions must be corrected recomputed, redisplayed,
and rerecorded. This approach can be very expensive and time- consuming. Often,
computer- animation companies first do motion tests with simple computer- generated
line drawings before selling their computers to the task of calculating the high- resolution,
realistic- looking images.
Question 36. What aspect of computer animation does the passage mainly discuss?
A. The production procession

B. The equipment needed

C. The highest cost

D. The role of the artist

Question 37: According to the passage, in computer- assisted animation the role of the

A. formulas B. objects

D. database

Question 39: According to the passage, the frame buffers mentioned in the third
paragraph are used to…………..
A. add color to the images

B. expose several frames at the same time

C.store individual images D. create new frames
Question 40: According to the passage, the positions and colors of the figures in hightech animation are determined by…………
A. drawing several version

C. analyzing the sequence from different angles

B. enlarging one frame at a lime

D. create new frames

Question 41: The word “capture” in the fourth paragraph is closest in meaning
to…………
A. separates

B. registers

C. describes

D. numbers

Question 42: According to the passage, how do computer- animation companies often
test motion?
A. They experiment with computer- generated line drawings.
B. They hand- draw successive frames.
C. They calculate high- resolutions images.
D. They developed extensive mathematical formulas.

indicate the correct answer to each of the questions from 43 to 50.
During the nineteenth century, women in the United States organized and
participated in a large number of reform movements, including movements to reorganize
the prison system, improve education, ban the sale of alcohol, grant rights to people who
were denied them, and, most importantly, free slaves. Some women saw similarities in
the social status of women and slaves. Women like Elizabeth Candy Stanton and Lucy
Stone were feminists and abolitionists who supported the rights of both women and
blacks. A number of male abolitionists, including William Lloyd Garrison and Wendell
Phillips, also supported the rights of women to speak and to participate equally with men
in antislavery activities. Probably more than any other movement, abolitionism offered
women a previously denied entry into politics. They became involved primarily in order
to better their living conditions and improve the conditions of others.

When the civil war ended in 1865, the Fourteen and Fifteen Amendments to the
Constitution adopted in1868 and 1870 granted citizenship and suffrage

to blacks but

not to women. Discouraged but resolved, feminists worked tirelessly to influence more
and more women to demand the right to vote. In 1869, the Wyoming territory had yielded
to demands by feminists, but the states on the East Coast resisted more stubbornly than
before. A women’s suffrage bill had been presented to every Congress since 1878, but it
continually failed to pass until 1920, when the Nineteenth Amendment granted women
the right to vote.

to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions
When people plan to marry, they expect to find in their partner not only a lover but a
friend also. They find a person with whom they can share their opinions, their emotions,
thoughts and fears. In marriage we are looking for a partner who will be able to
understand our values, our likes and dislikes.
If a man and a woman are born and raised in the same country, most likely they are
familiar with the same songs, movies, jokes, books and life in general. They basically
have the same roots. In the case of a western man and foreign woman family everything
is more complicated and requires much more patience and understanding from both
spouses. On one hand, each of the partners has an opportunity to learn a great deal about
the other's country, culture, traditions and life styles which can be very interesting. On the
other hand, it can be very disappointing if there is the inability to understand your
partner's excitements and frustrations. For example, you are watching the television and
suddenly you see a famous actor or singer, or other type of an artist whose name you

have grown up with. Maybe this artist was an idol for your parents and the music of this
artist was often played in your house when you were a child. Unfortunately you realize
that your wife is unable to understand your feelings because she has no idea who this
artist is. Her eyes are absolutely empty because she has never even heard the song before.
You feel rather disappointed! Remember that your wife has the same situation with you.
You do not know her country's songs, her country's famous actors, her books. She has her
own memories and in actuality, for her, everything is much more difficult than it is for
you. At least, you live in your own country where everybody can understand you. She
lives in completely strange surroundings, where she has nobody to share her feelings with,
except you.

Do some research and learn about your wife's country, culture and lifestyles. Talk with
her, ask her questions, get to know what songs she likes, what movies and books are of
interest to her. The Internet will give you a great opportunity to find anything! Tell her
about your country's culture, let her listen to the music that you like, rent a movie for her
that left you with great impression. Let her understand you better through the things that
you like. Patience and time will help you to fight cultural differences.

Read the reading passage and mark the letter A,B,C or D on your answer sheet to
indicate the correct answer to each of the following questions.

Young people have always liked having their own language. Each generation has its own
slang words, and they change faster than most adults can keep up with. That's the point of
slang, according to experts who study language and communication, and according to the
young people themselves. "You don't want your parents or teachers to understand
everything you say," says one 15-year-old. "We need our own space, too."
But nowadays it's not a matter of just a few words. There is a whole new language
developing. It's happening online, and it's happening at lightning speed. "It" is the
language of Instant Messaging, or IM, also used in text messaging. For young people, it's
a fun and creative way to converse. And the cool thing for them is, most adults can't
understand it.
"Young people have always been secretive," says one communication expert. "It used
to be passing notes under the desk in class. It's a way of keeping in touch and keeping
adults in the dark."
There isn't only one IM language, either. Young people in every country have
developed their own lingo, mainly based on sounds. For example, the Spanish question
word ¿que? become K? in IM language. In French, A+ (a plus) isn't a good grade, it's the
equivalent of L8R (later). In Japan, teenage girls have created an entire language called
Gal Go. It is a combination of different types of Japanese characters, and even boys of
their generation find it impossible to figure out.
The good news is that the preoccupation with IM - and with secrecy - doesn't last
forever. By the time they enter college, most young people are using a simpler version of
IM language, with just a few common abbreviations everyone knows. By that time, IM is
just a practical way to keep in touch with friends and colleagues, not a way to keep
secrets from the older generation.
