Particle size test
PA 09
1. Purpose / Target:
It is to be determined with this test whether the particle size distribution of the powder
permits a correct processing.
2. Description of the procedure:
2.1) Testing sets:
CILAS Granulometer 920 with software
wetting liquid (tap water with approx. 5 % detergent)
2.2) Execution
2.2.1) Manual operation
Of the taken powder sample little powder is mixed with wetting liquid.
At the CILAS device a zero value measurement is executed (<F1>).
Input of the test parameters (<F2>) (Exit : <Esc>) :
Sample designation: Machine and separator adjustment
Production number: Product number
File name: Batch number
Now the measurement is started (<F3>) and after request the sample is put into the water
tank (+ <Esc>).
After termination of the measurement the rinsing cycle is started (<F4>).
The results of measurement are documented by printout of the data. This printout is
attached to the manufacturing prescription. (<F10> [file] [end] [printing] [standard-
printing])
After printing press <M> <J> <Enter> <Enter> to get back to the starting-screen.
2.2.2) Automatic operation
Of the taken powder sample little powder is mixed with wetting liquid.
From the standard screen one arrives over the key sequence <F7> <Esc> <Esc> <F5> to
the input mask for the test parameters. Input:
Sample designation: Machine and separator adjustment
Production number: Product number
File name: Batch number
After exiting the input mask the measurement is released automatically, the sample is
expected to be put into the water tank. (display message). After termination of the
measurement the result printout is released, and the device is prepared for the next
measurement.
2.3) Analysis
The measured values with given the grain size are compared with the pre-set values.
Standard default values :
- Normal powders : 25 - 40 % smaller 32 µm
- DISC- powders : 40 - 50 % smaller 32 µm
These values apply to normal productions, deviations from it are noted at the prescription.
