GRABFOOD AND BAEMIN


I.

INTRODUCTION TO GRABFOOD AND BAEMIN
1. GrabFood

GrabFood is a food delivery service through the Grab application, which was first
launched in Vietnam in June 2018. It is also considered as the fastest Food Delivery
service in Vietnam.
GrabFood is a service that connects local food businesses to people. When you place
an order with GrabFood, they receive it, send it off to the restaurant and assign a
GrabFood delivery partner to pick up the order to bring it to you.
GrabFood with the following criteria:
 Quickest - GrabFood provides the fastest food delivery in the market.
 Easiest - Now grabbing your food is just a few clicks or taps away. Order online
or download our Grab super app for a faster and more rewarding experience.
 Food for all cravings - From local fare to restaurant favourites, our wide
selection of food will definitely satisfy all your cravings.
 Pay with ease - It’s easy to get your meals delivered to you. It’s even easier to
pay for it with GrabPay.
 More Rewarding - earn GrabRewards points for every order you make and use
them to redeem more goodies.
2. BAEMIN


BAEMIN is a food delivery service owned by Woowa Brothers Corp., headquartered
in Seoul. After successfully acquiring online food ordering application
Vietnammm.com in June, 2019, BAEMIN officially entered the Vietnamese market
and covered services in Ho Chi Minh City.
The leading food ordering app in Korea BAEMIN is an abbreviation of the phrase
"Baedal Minjeok". BAEMIN 's main customers are also young customers who often
use smartphones as well as online ordering and online payment services.
Despite being a "newbie" in the Vietnamese market, BAEMIN has a 10-year history
of development in Korea - one of the countries with the strongest food delivery service
industry in Asia. Because of such strong support, BAEMIN entered Vietnam and
made a pretty good first impression on Vietnamese users.

COMPARE GRABFOOD AND BAEMIN APPS
1. POPULARITY


Reputa's report shows that the Covid-19 epidemic has helped the food delivery service
to thrive. In which, GrabFood is the leading brand in the market with 33.38% of the
discussion market share, followed by Now with 23.16% of the discussion on social
media, the third is BAEMIN with 21.95%.

In particular, in May 2020, BAEMIN achieved the same amount of discussion as
GrabFood at the same time when the brand started promoting communication
activities. Although new to the Vietnamese market since 2019, BAEMIN shows that it
is a formidable competitor to any application, when constantly swapping places with
Now (launched in 2016) to become the top 2 most discussed apps.
In particular, the Fanpage channel is still the place that brings the most discussions for
brands (55.48%), followed by Facebook groups specializing in food and restaurant
reviews (22.90%).
In terms of discussion participation rate, BAEMIN is currently the most popular
application with young people in Ho Chi Minh City; while GrabFood is even more
popular with older people from 36-45 years old.

The most popular delivery apps among users are Grab Food and Now. Right behind is
BAEMIN in 3rd place. Specifically, among 1,046 people surveyed, the popularity of
Grab Food ordering applications is up to 73%. BAEMIN is more modest, about 46%.
Although entering the Vietnamese market in mid-2019, it was not until early 2020 that
the Korean brand began to spend money heavily on communication and promotion
strategies to attract users.
Immediately, BAEMIN quickly caught up with Gojek in terms of user rate (46%),
even outperforming it with 16% of users using this app the most - compared to Gojek's
11%. Changes in delivery usage of Grab Food and Now apps are still dominating the
market, but BAEMIN has the best growth.

2. OPERATION MARKET
GrabFood was developed from an online ride-hailing
platform (Grab) since 2018. Today, they have grown rapidly
and quickly dominated the market thanks to a large number
of GrabBike drivers and have become a highly rated food
ordering application in Vietnam. Although deployed after
very strong competitors like Delivery Now. At the same time,
with the large number of users as well as the available
coverage of GrabBike, Grabfood service is currently
available in 18 provinces and cities (Ho Chi Minh city,
Hanoi, Da Nang, Hue, Hoi An, Dong Nai, Binh Duong,…)
BAEMIN - rookie from Korea entered the market with many
attractive incentives. The image of shopkeepers in blue and
white shirts is increasingly spreading in the central areas of
Saigon. BAEMIN acquired Vietnammm.com to grow faster
in its coverage. Up to now, BAEMIN 's coverage is quite
wide compared to the position of a newcomer in the online food delivery service
market. Maybe the number of users on BAEMIN is not as many as traditional
competitors like Foody or Grabfood. But the brand awareness level of BAEMIN is
completely appreciated. BAEMIN 's current operating area is in 8 major cities across
the country, including 5 cities directly under the Central Government (Ho Chi Minh
city, Hanoi, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Ha Long, Can Tho, Vung Tau, Bien Hoa).

3. MARKETING

a. GRABFOOD
Grab is brand that effectively makes use of digital MKT tools in communicating his
goods. Grab was active on social media like Fb, Youtube, Instagram… Grab has also
been successful in optimizing brand identity with customers. One of Grab's key
techniques is Visual marketing, which exploits design, graphics, and photos to achieve
a high degree of effectiveness in engaging "every look".
GrabFood launched the "Familiar Single"- GrabFood campaign in May 2019.
In addition to the goal of improving the ever-faster force-compact - convenient food
delivery service, GrabFood satisshes the customers' taste by creating unique cuisine
creations with the familiar "Poison" food program.
The snack industry has been given exclusively to top
brands: A list of new brands including GongCha,
MeetFresh, and KOI, The Alley, Cheese Coffee,
McDonald's and Lotteria, among others, The exotic,
contemporary delicacies GrabFood and co-creators can
only be found on GrabFood, which is always on The
most-ordered list.
GrabFood carefully selected many influencers in different
areas ranging from celebrities to micro influencers, from
food bloggers to Streamers, VJ. For example, Jade Fox.
With the combined effort of GrabFood and CastingAsia, the campaign achieved huge
numbers:
 Over a million video views from Food Blogger and online community.
 282,478 interactions across three main channels: Page community,
Influencers, and Food Bloggers.
 676,279 interactive, food Blogger's review of food, discussed more than
13 thousand times, of which 80% were positive reviews.
 "Don't Miss dinner"

Launched in early 2019, this campaign of GrabFood garnered positive reviews from
both customers and the media.
"Don't miss meals" is a digitally based amphibious media campaign in the form of
TVC. It has three TVCS:
 TVC says his chauffeur GrabFood. At the end of
TVC is the tagline's tagline: "Do what you want,
don't miss a meal." The wide spectrum of TVC (18
million views on YouTube; 32.9 thousand React,
1.7 thousand Comment and 3.1 million Shares on
Facebook) and positive feedback from the
mainstream press.
 TVC: "It rains, don't skip meals." Like TVC before,
the ads again repeat the Grab driver's delivery story.
The interaction stopped at about two-thirds of the
original TVC, dropping but still large enough to see
this as an impressive TVC.
 TVC third is "brand new chicks" telling the season
story using "special" orders. Similar color, TVC
received positive comments on YouTube this time
with 6 million views.
 N-SAO “ Phien ban duoc chieu” Suboi x GrabFood
MSL Group Vietnam proposed the idea
that Suboi would self-write his own nstar hit version for The Grab Alliance
Deal.
The n-star tune remained the same,
while Suboi's lyrics were based on the
inclusion of Grab tied up Deal. Suboi led
his users through the difficulties of

living in a normal period and offered services in Grab Deals such as: "GrabMart",
"GrabFood", "Cost-saving" Moca electronics, "GrabTransport".

In addition, the dominant color of the MV is green which gives the brand a close
touch. In conjunction with 3D models and Neon effects, Grab images appear youthful,
active.
As a result, the n-Star MUSIC Video gained 4 million views and multiple comments,
which was a positive response from the community. It has been suggested that this is
indeed a musical product with humanistic and realistic brand message. This helped
ensure that Grab Continuity Deal was effective.
b. BAEMIN
Recently, the app's open - air marketing campaign has also gained critical acclaim. In
particular, BAEMIN has simultaneously flown large scale billboards in its districts. Ho
Chi Minh and Ha Noi. The sea is designed to be quite simple, uniform in terms of the
brand's color, showing The British Shipper in BAEMIN uniform but the content

For example, the promotional sign at a mound reads: "Go Vap, Anh thuoc long, Em
bang long, Anh giao”. The advertisement placed in Tan Binh says, "Tan Binh, Nha anh
do, Dat la co, Anh giao." Short, rhymed sentences that convey a clear message.

From May 2020, BAEMIN collaborated with Thanh Shing artist to produce a video
which is the main introduction:

The average delivery time is 20 minutes for an order. GrabFood delivery speed is

BAEMIN
Baemin's delivery fabric bag has a "Three-span Bag" in Vietnamese printed on it. This
is how Baemin first attracted the eyes of consumers on the street. "Three-span Bag" is
the phrase from a traditional Vietnamese fairy tale. In the tale, the bag brings treasures,
which makes the delivered food from Baemin treasures. This marketing strategy that
integrates local taste differentiates Baemin from other competitors. We can see that
BAEMIN delivery speed is not much inferior to that of other brands.
 Promotions
Referring to delivery apps cannot help but think of promotions and "burning money"
to increase the number of customers and market share. Currently, BAEMIN is a
supercrisis promotion app with some price reductions of up to 50%. In addition, the
application has been linked to the larger digital wallet platforms ZaloPay and Momo to
apply incentives for payment.

frequently. However, most vouchers on Grab only offer free of charge and favor
payment through Moca rather than cash.

• Delivery cost

For Grab Food, ship cost will be calculated according to the distance from restaurants
to the delivery point. The minimum cost is 12.000 VND or 15.000 VND for the first 3
kilometers depending on the restaurants and 5.000 VND for each subsequent
kilometer. Ship costs are high, higher than other floors.
At present, ship cost on the BAEMIN food delivery app is 15.000 VND with 3km
first and will add 5.000 VND to 3km. With this rate of charge can be considered
cheaper than Grab Food.
In addition, ship cost applies to a flexible tariff when demand increases, based on the
area and time in the day.
• Service cost
Grab Food:
Service costs are invested in the improvement of services, techniques, and support for

restaurant partners is never affected.
Depending on its business model, each restaurant partner might use an unique quality
of cooperation and investment plan on Grab Food. As a result, service costs may vary
depending on the restaurants.
And Grab is working hard to improve the customer experience on Grab Food, with the
goal of bringing additional extensions to users. But compared to BAEMIN , Grab

Food is still higher. Grab apply new service fees to Grab Food orders are 2.000 VND
for favorite restaurant, 6.000 VND for restaurant (or 8.000 for pizza order).
BAEMIN :
BAEMIN drivers' profits are unaffected by service costs.
On the client app, service costs are added directly to the total payments section.
On the BAEMIN Rider app, the service charges are shown in the line item data. The
driver must ensure that the money is collected at the customer's price. Could prevent
the driver from asking to collect money from consumers.

• Small order cost
What is small order cost? Is when you provide a lower value on your orders than the
minimum level.
Right now, between the restaurant's orders and the minimum order value, you may
have to pay additional fees.
And with the cost of 2.000 – 3.000 VND, the small order cost of Beamin and Grab
Food is the same.
d. Discount payment
Grab Food:
When you sign up for sales on Grab Food, you' ll have to pay a common discount in
between 20 - 25% depending on the value of the menu. Suppose that the discount is
20% and the order of 100.000 VND, you must pay Grab Food 20.000 VND. And for
the driver at 20%.
BAEMIN :
For restaurant partners: Now 25 - 30% is a discount that BAEMIN is maintaining.
When you first started selling sales, you will be applied to the lowest discount (25%).
For example: Customer order on app BAEMIN 5 cups of milk tea, each 20.000 VND.
Total order: 100.000 VND. The driver will come and pay all 100, 000 for you. The last
month, 25% discount of the order (25.000 VND) Beamin will return. So, the other
75.000 VND is your profit.
Beside, BAEMIN discount rate will be charged to the driver at 10% of the delivery
cost. However, BAEMIN is free to reduce the discount at this moment, and the driver
will receive the ship’s fee (100% ship cost).

From here, you can see the opposite of Grab Food and BAEMIN . BAEMIN 's
restaurant partner receives a higher rate discount than Grab Food, while Grab Food
drivers gets a higher rate discount than BAEMIN , and vice versa.
e. Payment methods

BAEMIN : In addition to three forms of payment: Cash, ATM Card, Visa/ Master;
then BAEMIN has a form of payment in electronic wallets such as: Zalo Pay, Mo Mo,
VN Pay/ Viettel Pay. Compared to Grab Food, the payment methods of BAEMIN
varied and more.
Grab Food now provides three methods of payment for consumers when using the
ordering service for the grab app: Cash, ATM Card/ Visa/ Master and form of payment
moca in electronic wallet on the grab app.

5. WORKING PROCESS
Reasons to register to become a GrabFood and BAEMIN partner.
For the sake of comparison, I will evaluate based on 3 criteria including: market share,
the registration process to become a partner and ownership of user data.
a. Market share.

According to a report by Q&Me, a survey of food delivery app usage trends in
Vietnam 2020, conducted on 1,046 people aged 18 to 45 years old in Ho Chi Minh and
Hanoi, December 2020. The proportion of users who ordered food / drinks accounted
for 62%. And there are 73% of people using the app to pick up food, BAEMIN has
46% of users. Thus, GrabFood is leading the food ordering application market,
BAEMIN is ranked 3rd on the rankings.
The average rate of people using food ordering applications is high (62%), especially
food delivery services in Vietnam are increasingly popular due to social distancing
measures applied during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The number of users of these two platforms is very large, it can be estimated at
millions of users. So, the opportunity to reach these audiences is easy, completely free,
without any marketing or advertising campaigns. They have used the services on this
platform and the big brands, big restaurants like The Alley, Gong Cha… all have a

loyal customer base and a large fan base. If you also sell bubble tea, reaching out to
these people is obvious.

GrabFood already has a favorite restaurant feature, when it becomes a favorite
restaurant, the restaurant will appear more and be suggested when users search,
thereby increasing the number of customers and revenue for the restaurant. To become
a favorite restaurant on Grap Food, it is necessary to meet the following criteria:
Ensure order time within 5 minutes from the time the customer places the order,
deliver on time to the delivery person, Prepare the POS machine for delivery invoice
for GrabFood driver.
BAEMIN currently does not have this favorite store feature.
So, the number of people using the two food delivery application platforms is very
large. The more people on it, the more likely you are to buy food at your restaurant.
b. The registration process to become a partner
Grab has announced the GrabFood restaurant partner registration process on its
homepage, specifically including 5 steps:
- Step 1: Register information through the website
- Step 2: Provide restaurant details
- Step 3: Get advice from GrabFood
- Step 4: Follow up the registration process via email
- Step 5: Log in to the app and become a GrabFood partner
Important documents to prepare when registering include: Shop owner / business
information including email address, photo ID / Citizen ID / Passport, bank account
photo. Store / business information including photo of business license, company
power of attorney, photo of menu and dishes, photo of certificate of food hygiene and
safety.
Grab will charge an activation fee of 1 million VND for each GrabFood sales unit in
Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. And collect a commission on the seller's sales at the rate

specified in the service and e-commerce contract between Grab and the seller, called
the service fee.
Processing time is about 10 days from the date of application submission. But
sometimes it takes longer, some stores take more than 3 months to be contacted by
Grabfood staff to do the procedure.

All information about required documents as on Grab is also provided to partners on
the official grab.com homepage. At the same time, Grab also provides more frequently
asked questions and answers for customers such as: What is a favorite restaurant, why
should it become a favorite restaurant? How long does it take to connect to GrabFood?
When will I receive the contract? etc.
To become BAEMIN 's partner, BAEMIN
including 5 steps:

- Step 2: Wait for a response and receive a call from BAEMIN
- Step 3: Provide necessary information to support staff
- Step 4: Get results on cooperation with BAEMIN
- Step 5: Become a partner with BAEMIN
BAEMIN does not charge a subscription fee and is not obligated to purchase a receipt
printer. However, BAEMIN will collect the service fee in three stages:
a. Before opening the application: preferential service fee: 22%, free first
month, free activation.
b. 30 days after opening the app: 25% standard service fee, first month service
free, depending on plan at time of new registration.

c. From 31 days after application is opened: Standard service fee: 25%,
depending on the program at the time of new registration.
Profile information to be provided to BAEMIN includes: Store owner information
including contact name, phone number, email, ID/Citizen ID/Passport number. Store
information includes store address, storefront image, processing area image, menu
image.
In addition, the restaurant needs to provide some necessary related documents
(business registration license, location registration certificate ...) for contracts with
legal status as Business Household and Company, the restaurant needs to have a
frontage of at least 2 meters, the restaurant needs a parking space for the driver. In
particular, BAEMIN driver registration is not supported to become a BAEMIN 's
restaurant partner and cannot have more than 1 brand per address.
Waiting time for a response from BAEMIN is usually 7 working days.

Therefore, it's easy to register to become a GrabFood and BAEMIN partner. The
requirements needed to make an application have been provided in full and are easy to
understand. However, GrapFood charges a subscription fee, BAEMIN does not.
c. User data and reviews data
Grap already features Store Reviews and Data Analytics on the GrabMerchant app,
which shows business trends, marketing performance and star rating information from
GrabFood users. GrabFood partners can proactively use the necessary data at any time
to conceptualize, optimize and improve the experience. Details displayed include:

includes: total number of users completing orders, new user files, number of users
returning to order. Store reviews include: number of stars, customer reviews sorted by
date and number of stars.
Regarding the BAEMIN app, customers rate the restaurant on a 5-point scale. If the
restaurant has less than 15 reviews, the review score will not be displayed. If the

restaurant has 15 or more reviews, the restaurant will display the review score with
typical customer feedback on the BAEMIN app. However, BAEMIN has not yet
developed a feature for partners to view their restaurant review scores on the
Restaurant App.

According to a survey by Q&Me, BAEMIN has the highest level of satisfaction,
followed by GrabFood. The number of people who are very satisfied with BAEMIN
is 36%, GrabFood is 34%. BAEMIN 's satisfaction level is 57%, Grab Food's is 47%.

Also, customers are satisfied with quick delivery (50%), promotions (29%), good staff
attitude (18%), variety restaurants (14%), cheap prices (14%) and easy to use (13%).
Customer dissatisfaction was attributed to low delivery (21%), high shipping costs
(16%), low or less promotion (7%), high or unstable food prices (6%), takes time for
the driver to receive the goods (5%) and the attitude of the staff (4%).
Thus, GrabFood is the main competitor in the food delivery application market in
Vietnam. However, BAEMIN topped the customer satisfaction rankings with the
number of satisfied and very satisfied people at 93%.

CONCLUSION

So, based on the data table and the aggregate comparison table above, restaurant
partners can choose to give the app the best way to sign up for online sales, increasing
revenue for the store. Specially during the time of the 19 covid, the highest revenue for
stores comes from online sales services.
So should you sell food on Grab Food and BAEMIN? The answer is to SELL, because
the benefits are more limited.
There' s been a lot of successful restaurants when applying the sales model on this app,
so you should try and of course , the source of that success is the quality of the food
and drink you serve. Even if the restaurant has a nice place, the discount is high,
attractive promotion, but if the quality of the food is not good, the number of buyers
will be low.
For any of you who haven' t opened the restaurant and are going to open the restaurant
to sell online on the app, it can apply this model to business because the online food
market is developing and has a value to tens of millions of us dollars.
However, before selling on the app, the owner must research and optimize the food
costs in order to maximize profits. For example, it may raise the price of food a little
amount after deducting the discount, resulting in higher returns or by selling at the
restaurant. In addition, it is vital to indicate the sale of staple foods on the app or the
customer to the bar to choose the appropriate business location.
For customer/ user, you should choose Grab Food or BAEMIN ?
Use which app depends on your order. Personally, I still alternately use the above
apps:
When you need quick delivery, you' ll choose Grab
Food
to order and when you're not in a hurry, you'll use BAEMIN the order to be
discounted.
