TOPIC: BE YOURSELF!
Purpose: to persuade audiences that we should always being ourselves.
1. Introduction:
- When I was a little girl, my parents always told me that if I wanted to be a good
person, to be perfect, or to feel accepted, all I had to do was be myself. And I never
really understood what they meant. Throughout elementary school, high school,
some of my teachers said the same things, “be yourself”.
- Be yourself, we are told this all the time, I believe that many of you used to say this
or receive this advice from someone. Right? But, have you ever wondered what it
means to be yourself? Or why should we be ourselves?
- That is the reason why I choose my topic. I am going to talk about the topic BE
YOURSELF.
- My presentation is divided into 3 parts. Firstly, I’ll tell you Why should we be
ourselves. The second part is answer the question what we can do to be ourselves.
And finally is conclusion.
There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation.
2. Body:
1. I’d like to start by the answer of question “why should we be ourselves?”
 But at first, I want you to understand what does “be yourself” means.
- Be yourself! Every people makes this sound so simple, and do it in simple ways.
But the truth is that learning to be ourselves is one of the difficult things we will
ever do. Have you ever though “what does it really mean, to be yourself?” Do you
think that be yourself mean you are so rude to your teachers, keep your bad habit
and think that you are being your true self? Certainly not. why?
- So what does it really mean? In fact, when you are being yourself, you are not
afraid to be your true self. I mean you completely know who you are, respect
yourself, honest with what you feel and people around, know your values, accept
your imperfections. Then, you try to change to be better.
 So, according to this concept, you will get many benefits.
 Firstly, your life will be happier:
- Many young people believe that when they do things to please their peers, such as

drinking when they shouldn't, or behaving in inappropriate ways, they will be
popular and liked. But after all, what can they have? Did they happy? The answer is
NOTHING.
I think that the happiest thing in our life is doing the things we want to do, being the
person we meant to be, and doing the things we believe in. But they must be right

things. If you’re constantly doing things to make others happy, but not yourself,
you’re bound to stress yourself out.
- In addition, you know, like Douglas Pagels once said: “A friend is one of the nicest
things you can have, and one of the best things you can be”, so the more honest you
are, the more friends you can have. You might not get you a lot of friends, but it
will always get you the right ones. It’s really great, right?
 Next benefit, being you will help you develop yourself, especially, gain more
confidence.
In fact, we are afraid to be ourselves because we don’t think that we’re good enough. How
many times have you looked in the mirror and told yourself I’m not good enough, I’m not
pretty enough, not tall/smart enough?” It all comes down to those two words “not…
enough”. That is the reason why we lost our confidence. However, when you are being
yourself, you know your values, accept your imperfections, and you can develop your
strengths. Maybe you are not good at math, but you can speak fluently 2 languages.
Maybe you can’t dance, but you are a good volleyball player. So, be yourself, develop
your strengths, understand your purpose, then you will be more confident.
((6min))
 Last but not least, being yourself help you to make better decisions.
- If you’re constantly trying to copy someone, your decisions are going to be based on
being like that person, being something different, and it’s not yours. So it’s clear to see
why this would be a bad idea as far as decision making goes.
- However, when you’re honest with yourself and you respect yourself, your decisions
will always make a lot more sense. So you will do it with all enthusiasm. This is also one

of powerful cause of success.
- For example, your hope is being a tour guide, but you have to study to become a teacher
because your parents want you to do that. Are you sure that you'll be a good teacher? Are
you sure that you'll be your best self?
All right, there are a lot of benefits that “Be yourself” can give you, but I just give you
three, because I think these benefits are the best things we can have.
2. Ok, let me turn now to some tips you can do to be ourselves.
 Redefine yourself:
Your primary goal should be to know, understand and accept yourself. Spend times on
contemplate on your life’s choices. Try to think about what kind of things you would or
wouldn’t like to do, and act accordingly; finding out through trial and error helps more
than you know. Work on accepting mistakes and choices you’ve made.

 Simply be honest and open:
We’re all imperfect, evolving, learning human beings. If there are aspects of yourself you
are uncomfortable with— and you feel that you have to hide those parts of you, physically
or emotionally — then you have to come to terms with that and learn to convert your socalled flaws into positive habits. Be honest with yourself, don't let your flaws get you
down.
 Don't compare yourself to others.
If you're always striving to be someone else, you'll never be a happy person.
By comparing yourself to others, you reduce your own worth. It's a useless activity that
only brings harm. You have to know that no one can make you feel inferior without your
consent and what matters most is that you listen to your own inner confidence and if it's
missing, just start developing it!
3. Conclusion.
 We should be ourselves because of some following reason: your life will be
happier, help you develop yourself, especially, gain more confidence. And being
yourself helps you to make better decisions.
 I have given you some tips to do: Redefine yourself, be honest and open, and do not

compare yourself to others.
And the last thing I want to tell you: “You are unique. You have different talents and
abilities. You don’t have to always follow in the footsteps of others. And most
important, you should always remind yourself that you don't have to do what everyone
else is doing and have responsibility to develop the talents you have been given.”
Time for question!
Thanks to audiences!
Complete!!!
Good luck !!!
