About This Course
This section provides you with a brief description of the course, audience,
suggested prerequisites, and course objectives.
Description

Course 1572A provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to
install and configure Exchange 2000. This course provides a significant amount
of hands-on labs that allow students to become proficient in the skills needed to
deploy and manage Exchange 2000. This 5-day instructor-lead course also
provides prerequisite knowledge and skills required for course 1573, Designing
Microsoft Exchange 2000 for the Enterprise
.

Audience
This course is intended for IT professionals who will implement and
manage Exchange 2000. Candidates for this course operate in medium to
very large computing environments, that typically have multiple physical
locations, mixed client connection protocols, and internet messaging
connectivity. The administrator typically performs day-to-day Exchange
2000 operations, and understands the ramifications of changes to Exchange
2000 Server configurations. Some common tasks for this role include
implementing the design and deployment plan, installing servers, creating
administrative and routing groups, setting permissions on Public Folders,
creating policies, mail-enabling users, and resetting passwords.
Student Prerequisites
This course requires that students meet the following prerequisites:
!
Working knowledge of Windows 2000.
!
Successful completion of course 1560B, Updating Support Skills from
Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 or 2154A, Implementing and
Administering Microsoft Windows 2000 Directory Services, or equivalent
working knowledge.
!
Working knowledge of networking, including TCP/IP, DNS, and IIS.

!
Working knowledge of Internet protocols, including POP3 or IMAP4,
SMTP, HTTP, and NNTP.
!
Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 is beneficial.

Course Objectives
After completing this course, the student will be able to:
!
Describe the main features of Exchange 2000 and how Exchange 2000
integrates with Windows 2000.
!
Prepare for an Exchange 2000 installation, install Exchange 2000, and
verify that the install was successful by confirming the proper Exchange
2000 services started.
!
Assign administrative roles to users and groups, grant and delegate
permissions to administrators, manage administrative permissions, and use
system policies to manage Microsoft
®
Exchange 2000 objects.
!
Create and manage storage groups and stores by using Exchange System
Manager, and enable full-text indexing to enhance searching capabilities.
!
Create, configure, and manage stores and storage groups.

!
Manage permissions on public folders, manage public folder replication,
and set policies on public folders.
!
Configure recipients with multiple SMTP addresses, an SMTP virtual
server, an SMTP connector, and identify the tools for troubleshooting
SMTP connectivity.
!
Create a routing group in native mode and mixed mode, and identify the
different types of connectors that can be used to connect routing groups.
!
Describe the message flow, message routing, and route selection in
Exchange 2000, describe the functionality of the link state table and the link
state algorithm, and enable message tracking, including subject logging and
display.
!
Configure IIS components, front-end and back-end servers, and configure
protocols, including IMAP4, POP3, LDAP, NNTP, and troubleshoot client
connectivity.
!
Identify the components of Outlook Web Access and describe how they
work together to process client requests, configure HTTP virtual servers,
and plan for Outlook Web Access security and deployment.
!
Install and configure Instant Messaging, and identify the security
considerations when implementing Instant Messaging.
!
Monitor Exchange 2000 performance by using the Performance MMC, and
configure Exchange 2000 monitors by using Notifications and Status.
