Activity 11.2: Creating an Initial User
Interface Design
In this activity, you will create an initial design of a user interface. The design
will be a low fidelity visual representation.
First, you will draw the user interface on paper.
Next, you will design feedback and user assistance for the interface.
Finally, you will participate in a class discussion about the user interface
designs.
Objectives
After completing this activity, you will be able to:

This activity includes both small group tasks and class discussion.

There are no prerequisites for this activity.

discussion.

Exercise 1: Designing a User Interface (15 minutes)

Create the design of the user interface for time reporting by the
consultant
1. Review the Ferguson and Bardell, Inc. case study, focusing on the section
titled "Time Sheet System."
2. Consider the activity of time reporting as performed by the consultant.
3. Design a user interface for that activity.
Incorporate terminology, concepts, and metaphors that are familiar to the
consultant.

Exercise 2: Design Feedback and User Assistance (10 minutes)

Refine the design by adding feedback and user assistance
1. Review the design you created in Exercise 1.
2. Identify how the system will provide feedback to the user.
Write this on the user interface design and identify the controls that will
provide the feedback.
3. Identify how user assistance will be implemented.

provide the feedback.
