and 99.999% availability, these concepts represent the
starting point of any discussion on value-added services.
The business exposure is enormous as even the most
minute of failures can lead to irrecoverable losses. And
in the United States, federal law now mandates busi-
ness continuity. For carriers, a managed-services busi-
ness strategy must include a technology strategy that
can support the critical needs of business customers.
The only serious answer is a high availability broadband
network (HABN).
At ADC, we know the value that carriers place on the
success of HABN networks for their end customers.
We know that each and every deploy-
ment is crucial, that integration is
extremely difficult, and that it
takes a tremendous amount of
resources to deploy HABN
networks on-time and on-
budget. We know precisely
how difficult it is to install,
commission and integrate the
required network elements
successfully. We also know that
we help reduce the complexity of
HABN ring deployments.

Working with ADC helps to ensure complete success
for your HABN project. We've completed more than
20 successful HABN ring deployments for a large U.S
based Tier 1 carrier, making us one of the most expe-
rienced systems integrators for HABN deployments.
Each of these projects was delivered to the most strin-
gent of standards as measured by customer quality-
assurance auditors.
Our experience is only part of the reason that ADC is
the right choice for your HABN project. We've built a
new network integration center dedicated to optical
DWDM deployments. This new lab, located in Atlanta,
is our home for proof of concept testing, customer
demonstrations, technical procedure development and
testing, problem simulation and resolution, and
resource training.
Reliability. Redundancy. Security.
For businesses that depend on
hundreds of petabytes of data
Our unique experience and commitment to HABN
make us intimately familiar with all processes,
configurations, equipment, and commissioning and
integration requirements. We also understand the
nuances of these complex deployments, and that
knowledge helps us build success into every project.
In addition to our unique experience with rings, we
offer our strength as a national vendor with flexible
pricing models.
With our focus on HABN, it makes sense to work
with the one company that has the experience,

expertise and resources to make your project a
complete success. Your customers demand the
highest possible level of service available, and your
choice of professional services partner has a direct
effect on the quality of your infrastructure. ADC is
a proven partner in success.

MATERIAL SERVICE
Our material services capability is one of the many reasons why companies
choose ADC as their systems integration partner.
• Network overview diagrams, which
include the various diagrams showing both
physical and logical overviews of the ring
• Site floor plans that show the location of
equipment for each site on the ring
• Equipment elevation diagrams of equipment
positioning within the cabinet for
each site on the ring
• Detailed shelf diagrams showing card
layout assignments in each chassis for all

sites on the ring
• Equipment connectivity diagrams that
illustrate intershelf connectivity, and tributary,
management and power connections
• Commissioning and telemetry data and
channel assignments, detailing the data used
to configure each shelf on the ring
• An equipment list of all equipment
associated with each site on the ring
• A fiber-ring diagram illustrating fiber-ring
design including fiber-circuit IDs, patch
panel and port assignments, and their OTS-In
and OTS-Out association
• Baseline fiber characterization/equipment
power-level information that shows the data
from the fiber characterization and
initial equipment power levels
• Commissioning and integration test
documentation of soak test, protection
switching, channel test results, etc.
• Testing procedures to perform channel
tests, protection switching, etc.
The final document in the engineering phase is ADC's Ring Design Package (RDP), which
contains all the engineering information about the ring. Used for maintenance and
troubleshooting, the RDP includes:
BRING ALL THE PIECES TOGETHER
In addition to simply mounting OEM and ADC
-furnished material in a cabinet or rack, we perform
the following for HABN deployments:
• Complete OEM equipment inventory matched

to the approved OEM bill of materials. Any
discrepancies are discovered early in the job
cycle and corrected before impacting
your due dates.
• Full pre-assembly of the HABN nodes, including
all intrabay cabling and cable testing.
• Full burn-in and testing of OEM equipment.
Faulty equipment is identified early in the job
cycle and corrected before impacting your
due dates.
• Site-specific inventories including card-level
serial numbers. This is used to prepopulate
OEM maintenance database records so OEM
maintenance contracts and depot-sparing levels
are in place at ring turn up.
• Verification of OEM software and
firmware version.
• Precommissioning of the nodes.
Site-specific data is loaded into the OEM and net-
work monitoring equipment. The data include IP
addresses, alarm telemetry information, card specif-
ic data, and other parameters. This reduces the
amount of on-site time to turn up a node. In some
cases, the actual ring may be turned up and tested
in our staging center.
Once complete, the cabinet or rack is crated and
shipped with any additional materials to the node
site. The cabinet/rack is ready to be bolted into
place, cabled up, powered on, and ready for final
commissioning and integration.

RACK AND STACK (R/S) /
