DESCRIBING OBJECT
I/ Purpose:
Descrition of objects on be found in catologues, advertisments, leaftets or
as part of letters reports, articals or stories.
II/ Language features
Simple present tenses.
Impersonal / objective language (impression)
III/ Organization in describing obiects
When you describe you should give accurate information corcerning
several aspect as follows
1. size and weight (e.g. big, small, heavy, light, etc)
2. shape (e.g. triangular, oval, square, etc)
3. parten and decoration (e.g. tartan, striped, etc)
4. color (e.g. red, green, etc)
5. orgin ( e.g. Chinese, Hanaarian, etc)
6. material (e.g. wooden, silk, woollen,etc)
IV/ Useful expression
A/ Expression for shape/ measure ments
• To be round / oval /rectangle/ hexaganal in shape
e.g. (10 centimetres) in leght/ width.
e.g. The swimming pools is 25 metres in leght
• To be /measure long/wide
e.g. The computer monitor measureing 19 inches is delicate in design.
B/ Expression for size, shape and design.
• To be the sign of NP (a pastage stamp )
Ex: The lasted memory card is the same size of a pastage stamp
• To be shaped like NP (a fan/ a cube/ a pyramid )
e.g. The lense of her sunglasses were shaped liked heartst
• To be decorated with ( ribbon/ pearls, )
Ex: The wedding car is beatifully decorated with ribbons and flowers
