wonderful people and professionals who led me through this internship period.

First and foremost, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to An Giang

ABSTRACT
An internship is an opportunity to help students enhance their knowledge
they have learned and apply it in reality. Moreover, they not only improved their
skills but also experienced what they even have not been taught at university. It is
also an opportunity for students to interact with different aspects of the social
environment, thereby contributing to accumulating more experience for students to
better define their future careers.
An Giang is a province with strengths in agriculture, with many breakthrough

models that bring high economic value. Recently, An Giang Province has been
cooperating with many foreign organizations to develop provincial agriculture, so
the need for specialized translators in this field is indispensable. Besides, I have
always wished to be a specialized agriculture-field translator not because I love
planting trees but also because I would like to be a part in the development of the
provincial agriculture. For these reasons, I decided to spend my eight-week
internship in agriculture translation field at An Giang DARD.
This report concerns the information of my internship from the Bachelor’s
Degree in English Language that took place at An Giang DARD. This report is
divided into three sections in which I try to cover my whole experience of working
at the department in the internship period. The first section of this report is an
overview of the internship agency including its background, operating hours,
function and organization. The second section shows my internship process, detailed
tasks and my experiences after the internship program. Finally, the outline of my
internship and some recommendations to build more successful internships for the
internship agency, An Giang University, Faculty of Foreign Languages and English
Majors.

INTERNSHIP PURPOSE
After 4 years studying at AGU, every student has accumulated a certain

amount of knowledge. However, if they do not have an appropriate place to
practice, there is no doubt that the theory could not be best applied in reality.
Especially for English-majored students, if there are no conditions for
exchanging capital English skills as well as translation and interpretation,
students will face many difficulties in later work.
As a result, graduation training is extremely essential to every senior
student. The duration of 2 months is suitable for them to experience the outside
world. They will have the chance to become familiar with the working
environment as well as the attitude needed of a professional worker.
Furthermore, they will be able to apply knowledge learnt from school to practical
work, which therefore eliminates the gap between normal theory and real-life

situations. After the graduation internship, each student can develop their own
sets of professional skills that their jobs require. This initial step is to help
students not confused, crestfallen before starting a new job.
II.

ASSESSMENT

1. Advantages
Firstly, An Giang DARD is located in Long Xuyen City, so I can
straightforwardly go for work without renting boarding-houses.
Secondly, all officers generally and Ms. Trang (my trainer) particularly
helped me in accessing to my work enthusiastically, created friendly and

favorable conditions for me to work here. Furthermore, they also shared their
many years of living and working experience which really helped me during
the internship.
Next, as an English major, I have got a basic English and translation skills
that supported me in completing my translation tasks. Finally, I also have
many opportunities to practice consecutive interpreting. It not only helps me
improve my English reflection but also improve my public speaking.
2. Disadvantages and solutions
Besides these advantages, I also faced many difficulties during the
internship. Firstly, due to lack of specialized vocabulary in agriculture filed,
while I was completing my translation tasks, I spent a lot of time looking up
and checking words to see if they were correct or not. Next, because this is
my first writing a response letter, a workshop plan, a proposal, a meeting

minutes, there are many things that I do not understand. I had to figure it out
by searching for samples on the Internet and reading lots of information from
other projects to complete my assigned tasks. Finally, when I practiced
consecutive interpreting at Phan Nam Farm and The Memorial of President
Ton Duc Thang, I was unable to reflect at first. I always thought how to
translate exactly what the presenter spoke, so it took me a long time to
translate. Then Ms. Trang and my instructor Ms. Hue demonstrated how to
translate properly, I started to do better.
3. Lessons learned after the internship
The internship in An Giang DARD was a worthwhile opportunity for me

to gain my knowledge. Through the time I worked here, I realized that my
knowledge of studying at university is not enough to be able to do the
assigned work well, so I have to learn more. In this internship, I have learnt
how to use a printer and copiers, how to make a leaflet and how to write a
response letter. I was also instructed to make my first project, proposal, plan,
meeting minutes. Moreover, I have learnt many specialized vocabulary and
knowledge in agriculture field. Finally, thanks to the internship, I had the
opportunity to familiarize with the working environment. From the bottom of
my heart, I really would like to thank Ms. Trang and my instructor again for
what they have taught me.
