II. READING: SUMMARIZE THE FOLLOWING NEWS IN

YOUR OWN WORDS (100-150 WORDS)
Germany's Olaf Scholz takes over from Merkel as chancellor
Olaf Scholz has been sworn in as Germany's new chancellor. His
centre-left Social Democrats will govern alongside the Greens and the
business-friendly Free Democrats. The new government has ambitious
plans to fight climate change by phasing out coal early and focusing on
renewable energy, but their initial priority will be tackling the coronavirus
pandemic. Mr. Scholz's coalition government is a marriage of convenience
never seen before in asserting that what unites is his determination to
modernize Germany, while maintaining the country's precious stability. The
immediate challenges for them are: Covid, the threat of a Russian invasion of
Ukraine, and Angela Merkel allegedly putting trade

before

politics.

Relations with Washington may improve as a result, though, and that is a
declared priority of Olaf Scholz's fledgling coalition. First elected in
December 1990, Angela Merkel was immediately given a ministerial job by
then Chancellor Helmut Kohl. But she then helped oust him and became
Christian Democrat leader in 2000, before becoming chancellor herself in
November 2005.
III. WRITING: In some countries, age is considered an
indicator of working experience and efficiency. Senior staff often look
down on young people and do not appreciate their ideas. Sometimes

young employees are paid much lower than the old ones. What do you
think about this? (200-250 words)

Age is not a comprehensive indicator of work experience and
performance, we should look at the end results.
Based on the capacity training process performed previously, the
leadership and human

resource

management

department

will have

appropriate performance evaluation methods to ensure that personnel are
performing properly and fully, as well as their outstanding achievements and
contributions. We see that, today, every organization develops based on the
productivity and efficiency of each individual's work, which is reflected in
the completion of targets and deadlines. With this method, regardless of
gender or age, you will be evaluated fairly and objectively based on your
actual capacity.
In addition, focusing on age is a wrong method that inhibits the
creativity of young people and easily makes them bored at work leading to
quitting. The fact shows that, with capacity and good attitude, young people
have many opportunities to choose a suitable place to devote their efforts and
brains. Therefore, they will find a dynamic working environment with
modern perspectives, helping them to develop their full potential at work.
Finally, look at the work results, regardless of age. Because sometimes,
people who have worked for a long time are not sure how to handle all
situations well. We should give young people trust, I believe they will return
you hard work and new ideas.
