SUMMARY OF NEW FINDINGS
1. Phenolic compounds from the resin of nut oil and the fruit peel of Calophyllum inophyllum
grown in Vietnam
The author describes for the first time the identification of phenolic compounds obtained from
the resin of nut oil and the fruit peel of Calophyllum inophyllum grown in Vietnam.
Three compounds were isolated from the resin of nut oil including 1,5-dihydroxyxanthone,
C13H8O4 (8.1 mg per 3.0 kg resin), 4-hydroxyxanthone C13H8O3 (105.0 mg per 3.0 kg resin) and
inocalophyllin C (proposed trivial name), C37H48O6 (135.0 mg per 4.0 kg resin). Inocalophyllin
C is a novel compound whose structure has been elucidated on the basis of extensive
spectroscopic method including UV-Vis, IR, HRMS, EIMS, 1D, 2D NMR together with single
crystal X-ray crystallography.
In the fruit peel of Calophyllum inophyllum, calophyllolide, C26H24O5 (26.0 mg per 4.0 kg fruit
peel) was identified.
2. Establishment of Chemical Reference Substances
For the first time, two chemical reference substances have been established in accordance with
the WHO guidelines on establishment, distribution and storage of chemical reference
substances. They are 4-hydroxyxanthone (9 vials of 5 mg/content: 93.91%) for use in
identification tests and calophyllolide (100 vials of 10 mg/content: 95.27%) for use in assays.
3. Analytical methods for drug quality control
The capillary gas chromatography/mass spectrometric methods for determination of
calophyllolide from fruit peel and nut oil resin of Calophyllum inophyllum grown in Vietnam
