Some cities have vehicle-free days, when private cars, trucks, motorcycles are
banned in the city center. Public transportations like buses, taxis and metros
are advised. To what extent do you think the advantages outweigh the
disadvantages?
My answer:278 words
In this contemporary epoch, there are designated days in some urban areas where
privately owned automobiles, trucks, and motorcycles are prohibited from entering
the city center. Instead, it is recommended to utilize public transportation options
such as buses, taxis, and subways. Despite some obvious disadvantages of this
method,I would argue that these are outweighed by the advantages.
There is no denying the fact that this policy brings disadvantages to both
individuals and society. The main and perhaps the most persuasive demerit for
this is that vehicles that restrict privacy for several days have caused
overcrowding on public transportation. One study found that on days without
private vehicles, the number of people using the subway or bus increased by 35%
per vehicle. This example proves us how unconvenient the people on that
transportation have to suffer from.
However,I firmly believe that thiss policy brings lots of advantages to the
society and also individual.Firstly,it helps us to ease the traffic flow in major
cities.Nowadays, traffic congestion is mainly due to the overload of private
transport and the use of public transport will reduce the entanglement in a variety
of vehicles while on the road, making the city becomes more livable and
enjoyable.Additionally,it is undeniable that taking public transportation increases
social interaction. For example, when you take the bus, you will meet a lot of
people on the same bus and you may meet people who have the same directions or
industry which are easy to talk to and will be able to become good friends.
In conclusion, from the aforementioned points,It is my strong reaffirmation that the
merits of conducting vehicle-free days instead of using private transportations are
more significant than the demerits.
