zebu, and zebra

Option 1: Revising the sounds and words

- Show flashcards: Show flashcards and ask
pupils to say: yogurt, yams, yo-yos, zoo, zebu

and zebra.
- Game: Pass the ball
Give flashcards for pupils to pass with the
music, then when the music stops, those who
get the flashcards will say the words.
Option 2: Singing
- Give some pupils flashcards yogurt, yams, yoyos, zoo, zebu, and zebra.
- Ask the whole class to sing the songs in Unit 9
and Unit 10 together.
- Have pupils holding the flashcards stand up
and show flashcards when they sing the
words they are holding.
- Lead to Activity 1, Fun time 3.

Have pupils look at each picture and say the
words. Ask What do you see?
Ask pupils to look at the pictures then circle the
letters to make words correctly. Then say.
Explain how to do the task.
Model with the first word if necessary.
“What’s the first letter of Yo-yo? (letter Y). Now,
let’s find and circle the word yo-yo.”
Do the same with the others.
Give further support to those pupils who find it
difficult to do the task.
Have pupils exchange their answers in pairs or
groups. Ask them to point to the words and say
them until they feel confident. Go around
and give further support to those who find it
difficult to do the task.

Point to each word and encourage pupils to say it.
Call some pupils to write the words on the board,
ask them to say in front of the class (as many
pupils do it as possible), then practice speaking in
pairs.

Extension:

If teacher uses hoclieu.vn or slides, he/she can
show the wordsearch and call on one or two
pupils to go to the board and point to the words in
the wordsearch.
After the pupils find the words and pronounce Group work/
them, organize a short game. Divide the class into Whole class
two teams. Call on one pupil from each team to go

to the board. Call out a word and the two pupils
have to write them on the board. Give a point to
each correct word. Pupils from the teams take
turns to write the word (to make it easier, teacher
spells the words for the pupils to write).

Write target words (yogurt, yams, yo-yos, zoo, Individual
zebu, and zebra) on the board. Draw a circle work
around each word.
Tell pupils to look, read and remember the
words.
Give instruction: Teacher will erase words one by
one, pupils must try to remember it.
To the second word, pupils must try to remember
the first and second ones. Continue until all the
words erased and pupils can say all five from
memory.
Model the game. Erase the word yogurt. Pupils Whole class /

raise their hands to say the erased word.

Have the whole class play the game. When Whole class
teacher erases the last word, ask some pupils to
say all the words.
Praise those who can say all correctly.

Wrap up

- Show the flashcards and have pupils say the Whole class
words again.

Give each flashcard for a pupil to show for other
pupils to say the words in groups (make a
competition).
Option 2:

Teacher holds all the flashcards, shows them one
by one, then has the pupils guess what the next
flashcard is.
- Tell pupils to practise saying the letters, sounds
and words at home.

Option 1: Quick guessing game:
Show flashcards (yogurt, yams, zoo, zebu, and
zebra) quickly for the pupils to guess what
they are.
Pupils raise hands then say out loud the words
when they see the flashcards.
Option 2:
Have pupils play The Matching Game. Stick
the picture flashcards on the board. Write the
words yogurt, yams, zoo, zebu, and zebra on
the board. Call on some pupils to go to the
board and draw lines to match the words and
the pictures.
- Lead to Activity 3, Fun time 3.

Draw pupils’ attention to Picture 1 (say “Look at
Picture 1”) and encourage them to say yogurt.

Have pupils spell the words yogurt then write on Whole class/

Call some pupils to bring their boards to the board work
to show their writing. Praise the good writings.
Do the same with the others.

saying the sentences both individually and in Pair work
chorus. Correct their pronunciation (if necessary),
praise them when their pronunciation is good.

B. Have each team stand in a line.
Have pupils listen carefully,
look at the pictures and spell the words.
Give the first pupil in each team a flashcard. Group work
Explain that he/she must read the word and then
whisper it to the next pupil in the line. Then the
second pupil whispers it to the third one, and so
on. When the word reaches the last pupil in the
line, he/ she should call it out. The first team calls
out a correct word will win.

Model the game with one group.

Ask the whole class to play the game if the time Whole class

If there is some time left, ask pupils to do writing Whole class
relay:
Write a letter, then pupils take turns going to the
board and writing the next letter, one by one, until
it becomes a word.
Practise writing as many words as possible.
