I. OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:
- identify and pronounce the words eleven, twelve, thirteen,
fourteen; fifteen, brother, sister and grandmother;
- practise listening and speaking skill.

Warm-up – Look and circle. Then say. – Let’s play. Homelink

Option 1: Revising the words
- Show flashcards: Show flashcards and ask
pupils to say them.
- Game: What’s missing?
Hide a flashcard, have pupils say the missing one.
Option 2: Singing
- Give some pupils flashcards.
- Ask the whole class to sing the songs in Unit 13
and 14 together.
- Have pupils with the flashcards stand up and
show them in front of the class when they sing
the words they have.
- Lead to Activity 1, Fun time 4.

Have pupils look at the pictures (on the board or
on the screen) and say the words.
Draw pupils’ attention to Picture 1 “Look at
Picture, then ask them: What do you see/ Who
are there in the picture? (boys and girls, teacher,
play game…)”.
Elicit the word indicated by the picture. After
answering, confirm by saying “fourteen”. Have
pupils circle the correct word. Say “Circle the
word fourteen.”.
Point to the circled word then encourage pupils
to say it both individually and in chorus. Correct
pupils’ pronunciation (if necessary), then praise
them when their pronunciation is good.
Ask pupils to look at the word search, find and

Extension:

circle the words in it individually. (say “Find and
circle the words in the word search. Then say the
words.”).
Give further support to those pupils who find it
difficult to do the task.
Have pupils exchange their answers in pairs or
groups. Ask them to point to the words and say
them until they feel confident. Go around and
give further support to those who find it difficult
to do the task.
Call some pupils to show the circled words and
say them in front of the class.
If teacher uses hoclieu.vn or slides, he/ she can
show the wordsearch and call on one or two
pupils to go to the board and point to the words
in the wordsearch.

After the pupils find the words and pronounce Group work/
them, organize a short game. Divide the class Whole class
into two teams. Call on one pupil from each team
to go to the board. Call out a word and the two
pupils have to write them on the board. The rest
of the class should write on their small boards.
Give a point to each correct word. Pupils from
the teams take turns writing the words.

Extension:

Wrap-up

Divide the class into two teams. Have each team Group work
stand in a line, facing the other team.
Pupils in each line will play a game of rock, paper,

scissors, one by one. The one who wins then
shows the other pupil a flashcard. The other pupil
has to look and say it. If he/ she is correct, he/
she remains staying in the line; if he/ she is
incorrect, he/ she is “out” and must leave the
line. The first team to get all the players in the
other team “out” wins.
Model the game of the first turn. Instruct pupils Whole class/
to play the game. Help them practise this until Group work
they can follow easily.
Follow the same procedure with the other
flashcards.
Have the teams play the game. Call two pupils to Whole class
be the observers of the game. Give stars/ points
for the teams and praise the winner.
After doing well at this game, increase the Whole class
difficulty. Ask one pupil to come to the class, hold
up a flashcard, the other pupils will guess what it
is. Give points to the teams who guess it
correctly.
5 minutes
- Have pupils say the words and numbers again in Whole class/
Group work
groups/class.
- Then:
Option 1:
Show flashcards and have pupils say the words.
Do this with the whole class. Make it more
interesting by hiding the flashcards then show
them quickly.

Option 2:
- Write the words on the board. Ask pupils to

speak out all of the words they have learnt. Give
the flashcards to some of them to stick next to
the words.
- Tell pupils to practise saying the words at home.

Option 1:
Ordering the numbers:
Give flashcards of numbers from 11 - 20 for
pupils to come up and order them, then say out
loud the names of the numbers.
Option 2:
- Have pupils play The Matching Game. Stick the
picture flashcards on the board. Write the words
on the board. Call on some pupils to go to the
board and draw lines to match the words and
the pictures.
- Lead to Activity 3, Fun time 4.

Step 1

Draw pupils’ attention to Question 1 (say “Look Whole class/
at Question 1.”). Say “What number is it?”, Individual work
encourage pupils to say the full sentence

Extension:

Show the pictures in Activity 3 on hoclieu.vn or Whole class
on the screen. Point to the words randomly
and call on some pupils to read the words in
front of the class.
Otherwise, show the flashcards and invite

some pupils to look at the flashcards and
practise speaking.
Have pupils say the completed sentences aloud Individual work
(say “Now say.”). Do this several times, with / Pair work
pupils saying the sentences both individually
and in chorus. Correct their pronunciation (if
necessary), and praise them when their
pronunciation is good.
Ask pupils to work in groups and practise Group work/
speaking the words by drawing and guessing Individual work
with the numbers 1 - 20... in two minutes.
Then show their pictures in front of the class.
Ask some pupils to go to the board, say and
write the words.

4. Let’s play: Mystery bag. 12 minutes

Show the mystery bag then have pupils look at Whole class
it and say “Let’s play: Mystery bag.”.
As a practice run, take one flashcard out of the
mystery bag (for example, take a card with
_er), then show it to pupils. Encourage them to
think of a word beginning with/ containing/
ending with that letter or letter combination.
Group work
Give instruction:
Divide the class into two teams. Explain that

when you say “Go!”, a pupil from each team
should come to the front. They will take turns
to take a flashcard out of the mystery bag and
say a correct word. A correct word scores one
point.

Wrap-up

Play the game. Support and give pupils help, Group work
when necessary.
The team with the most points wins.
Have pupils play the game in groups one by Group work
one.
Support and give them help, when necessary.
Ask the rest of the class to say the word again Whole class

If there is some time left, ask pupils to create Group work
phonics flowers in groups of four. Ask them to
colour and make it more beautiful. After
finishing, pupils go around the class to see the
flower from other teams.
