2. Love is full of sacrifice and helps people live meaningful life even in difficulties. Do you agree with
that opinion? Why or why not? Can you also prove by your understanding of the story “The Gift of the
Magi” by O. Henry and “The Scarlet Letter” by Nathaniel Hawthorne?
Answer:
When someone truly love another, they are willing to give anything to ensure that their loved one is safe.
I agree that love is sacrifice and encourages people to live a meaningful lives even in difficulties.
Love without sacrifice is like an ocean without water. Love is not a thought nor a sensation; it is an
undeniable desire to cultivate and polish the hearts of those somebody love so that they may shine

brightly. Love is greater than any thinking, idea, or sense of meaning, yet it is the reason humans think
and seek meaning. Love is the only key that can open all doors. It has the power to expose the deepest

mysteries and soften the toughest hearts. Love transports mankind to the very center of paradise. It
manifests itself via the art of giving and sharing one's emotions.
In The Gift of the Magi by O.Henry, Della and Jim are truly in love. Jim and Dell want to do something
special for each other over the festive season. They both sell their most valued thing to get enough money
out of Jim's salary to purchase a gift. Their desire to satisfy their lover outweighs their desire to pleasure
themselves. This is rather surprising given that none of them owns anything. Despite their bleak
surroundings, lack of goods, and financial predicament, each prioritize the interests of the other.
Similarly, Hester's love for Dimmesdale, and vice versa, is evident throughout Nathaniel Hawthorne's The
Scarlet Letter. Despite the fact that they are both in love, I believe Hester's love is more passionate. It is
the kind of love that compels her to forego her pleasure to keep the other person happy. One example is
Hester's refusal to confess that Dimmesdale is the father of her child in the face of embarrassment and
disdain from the broader population. She never reveals the name of her kid, even after the magistrates
threaten to take it away from her.
