AMERICAN LITERATURE 1&2
Part 1. Write a short professional bio data about your profession, responsibilities,
education, interests, and current work (no more than 150 words).
My full name is Nguyen Ngoc Huyen. I am a doctor. I am working at the Vinh city
general hospital. My daily job is to examine the patient, give medicine, and give
medical orders. A night of intensive care staff's duty is often long and tiring due to
the heavy and complicated patient arrival. Fatigue melts away when we see
patients recover or be saved. ICU patients are often severe, requiring good health
and expertise. So I have to exercise regularly to improve my health. And never stop
learning to have more in-depth knowledge.
Part 2. Choose one of these questions which are given in the task and answer
it in a 300-words essay.
3.Optimistic spirit can help people live better and overcome obstacles in life. How
can you prove this opinion by analyzing the role of hope revealed in the poem
“Hope is the Thing with Feathers” and Rip’s ways of adapting to the new life in
“Rip Van Winkle”? How is the optimistic spirit important to your positive
thinking?

“Optimism can help people live better and overcome obstacles in life “
In daily life, with so many worries and hardships, we have many difficult
challenges that if we want to continue, we must try to overcome. Happiness in life
depends a lot on each person's own perspective and thoughts. Therefore, the spirit
of optimism is a valuable tranquilizer to help us firmly walk and feel the true value

of life. And the poem “Hope is the Thing with Feathers” is a testament to the
importance of hope in our lives.
‘Hope is the Thing with Feathers’ is a beautiful, metaphorically driven
poem. Throughout, Dickinson uses the bird in her usual homiletic style, inspired by
religious poems and Psalms. Hope, according to Emily Dickinson, is the sole
abstract entity weathering storms after storms, bypassing hardships with eventual
steadiness. It remains unabashed in the harshest of human conditions and
circumstances, enabling a thicker skin.
Why is hope called “the thing with feathers?”
Dickinson crafts this metaphor in order to describe the fleeting and beautiful nature
of hope. It is at once beautiful and fragile, as a bird is. It “perches” in the soul, as if
tentative.
She said that hope is beautiful, perches in the heart like a bird, and can outlast the
most difficult conditions. It is also selfless. It has never asked her for anything
despite its constant presence.
And Rip’s ways of adapting to the new life in “Rip Van Winkle”
Rip Van Winkle found himself in an altered reality upon awakening, he too had
experienced the disconcerting thrill of entering a bizarre society. He found himself
lonely and lost in that society, at first he was unable to integrate with the people
and life there. He embarked on a journey of adaptability and open-mindedness. He
immerses himself in the customs and peculiarities of these unknown lands, seeking
to understand the motivations and values that underpin their way of life. He had
wandered through a strange society.
For me, the spirit of optimism has a great role in human life. It helps us live
more happily, enjoy the beauty of life, and make life more colorful. In addition,
optimists will always transmit positive energy to others. The spirit of optimism is
extremely important, along with the will, optimism will help people get closer to
success.
