Part 2: Love is full of sacrifice and helps people live meaningful life even in
difficulties. Do you agree with that opinion? Why or why not? Can you also prove
by your understanding of the story “The Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry and “The
Scarlet Letter” by Nathaniel Hawthorne?
Answer:
There is no doubt that love is a strength and ability that God gives to people to help them
overcome difficulties in life. I agree with this opinion as it resonates with the profound
themes explored in the stories “The Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry and “The Scarlet
Letter” by Nathaniel Hawthorne.
Regarding of the masterpiece “The Gift of the Magi” with two main characters, Jim and
Della, show the meaning of love through their sacrificial acts. In this story, both Jim and
Della have financial limitations, but they also have selfless choices in an attempt to
express their love for each other. Della sells her most prized possession, her hair to buy a
chain for Jim’s lovely pocket watch, while Jim sacrifices his treasured watch to buy
ornamental combs for Della’s long hair. The story demonstrates the idea that love
transcend material possession and is rooted in acts of sacrifice.
Besides O. Henry’s story, “The Scarlet Letter” is an example to help readers understand
clearly about love essence. The character of Hester Prynne exemplifies love’s ability to
help people live a meaningful life even in obstacle. Hester’s unswerving love for her
daughter, Pearl, drives her to endure the public humiliation and social ostracism inflicted
upon her as a result of her affair. Despite the terrible criticism and disapproval she
receives, she still devoted to her well-being, sacrificing her own reputation for the sake of
her child. Her love becomes a source of strength and purpose, enabling her to establish a
new moral identity.
Both of these stories describe love as a force that motivates people to overcome obstacles
and find ways to face difficulties. The strength of love is found in mutual understanding,
sharing, and sacrifice. It significantly contributes to overcome challenges in life.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that love can empower people to live meaningful lives
even in difficulties, which has been demonstrated in two stories “The Gift of the Magi”
and “The Scarlet Letter” of two well-known authors. People should power of love
because it will help us find the exact ways to face adversities.
