- Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to write a report of
data analysis.
- Materials/ Teaching aids: handout and textbook.
- Procedure:
 Warm- up: Slap the board
Coal gas petroleum hydroelectricity
wind energy water energy
Divides class into two groups.
1. Pre-writing:


Preteach vocabulary:
- consumption (n) sự tiêu thụ
- (to) make up : tạo nên
- (to) increase : tăng
- (to) decrease : giảm


Task 1: Study the chart about energy consumption in Highland in2000 and
fill in the gap with the information from the chart. (page 130, handout).
- Explain the chart and lead students to answer somes questions:
What is the topic of the chart?
What patterns are shown?
- Asks students to underline some phrase and runs through the paragraph in the
handout.
“The chart shows the energy consumption in Highland in 2000. As can be


seen, the total energy consumption was (1) million tons. Petroleum
made up the (2) amount of this figure (57 million tons). This was
followed by the consumption of coal (40 million tons). (3) made up
the smallest amount of energy consumption (20 million tons).”
- Gets students to fill in the blank.
- Asks students to compare with their partner.
- Teacher’s correction.
- Gets students to know the structure of this paragraph to write a description.
• Topic sentence.
• Detail (the total, the largest, the next, and the smallest).
 Answer key:
(1) 117 (2) largest (3) nuclear and hydroelectricity
2. While-writing:

Task 2: Write a description of the trends in energy consumption in the year
2005 in Highland. (page 130)
- Asks students to describe the trends in energy consumption in the year 2005 in
Highland based on task 1 and begin the description with the phrase:
The chart shows that…/ The chart describes…/ The chart presents…
- Students work individually.
- Students compare with their partner.

Task 3: Write a description of the energy consumption in Highland: ( page
130).
- Students work in group to write a description by using the structure like tasks
1 & 2.
3. Post-writing:
Exhibition.
 Homework:
