I. Aims :
- By the end of the lesson, the students are able to express gratitude.
- By the end of the lesson, the students are able to respond to thanks.
II. Lexical items :
- obliged -grateful extremely

- It was the least I could do.
-Don’t mention it!

up

Games: ‘Flashing the cards’
-Put the class into groups , A & B
-Hold these expression cards, one at a
time , and flash in as quicly as possible

-Handouts


-The groups then take turns to work out
the expression. If the correct answer is
give ,the groups get 5 points. In case of
failure, the teacher will hold the card
without flashing for a while and let the
group half of the points, that is 25 points.
If the group fails again, the turn then
passes to other group ,and so on.
- The group with more points wins.
- Ask SS when these expression are used.
They are used to respond to thanks
Transition:- That ‘s right. Today we will
learn how to express gratitude and
respond to thanks.

Activity 2: ‘Picture cue Drill’
- Prepare 5 or 6 five – sided cards with
the words eyes , ear, nose, tongue, and
hand on each side. ( Appendix2 )
-Put SS into pairs.
-Within pairs ,SS practice expressing
gratitude and responding to thanks based
on the situations in the picture.( Task b,
textbook, p.50)
- Assign some pairs to role-play the
dialogue in front of the whole class
- Make corrections in terms of
pronunciation and grammar
Listening:
-read out mixed expressions of gratitude
and responses to thanks.
-Have SS listen and sound out ‘G’ or ‘R’





















The sentences used in the
activity are:
