GREEK THEATRES
The word theatre comes from Greek and literally means seeing place. The theatre
has been popular in ancient times. People did not go to the theatre simply to see an

A POP STAR

A NOBLE GIFT
One of the most famous monuments in the world, the Statute of Liberty, was presented to
the United States of America in the nineteenth century by the people of France. The great statute,
which was designed by the sculptor Auguste Bartholdi, took ten years to complete. The actual
figure was made of copper supported by a metal framework which had been especially constructed
by Eiffel. Before it could be transported to the United States, a site had to be found for it and a
pedestal had to be built. The site chosen was an island at the entrance of New York Harbour. By

to pieces and sent to America. By the end of October 1886, the statute had been put together again

In an effort to produce the largest, fastest, and most luxurious ship, British built the Titanic.
The owners were so sure of this that they provided lifeboats for only 950 of its possible 3,500
passengers.

Many passengers were on the ship the night it crashed into an iceberg, only two days at sea
