Summary of Activities
• Lectures – Directions, some details
• Tutorial – Problems to solve
• Laboratory – Familiar with tools, PV panels
and design of power converters
• Term Project – Small scale PV system
• Essay – Current/future renewable energy
systems development in Australia
• Self-study – library, internet, computer
simulations
7
Outcomes
• Describe and calculate the electrical characteristics of solar, wind, and
hydrogen renewable energy sources under different environmental
conditions.
• Apply electronic circuit theory and simulation techniques to analyze
power electronics circuits such as dc/dc converter and dc/ac inverter.
• Design and implement a power converter to regulate output voltage
from a solar panel.
• Develop maximum power point tracker (MPPT) for extraction of
maximum power from the solar panel.

• Explain and understand how the economical, marketing and political
issues influence the development of renewable energy systems in
today’s and future society.
• In short: Broad knowledge of electrical energy systems and
management but in-depth knowledge on solar energy systems
