UNIT 2: CLOTHING
Lesson 6: Language Focus

A. Aims:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to review the passive form of the
Present Simple, Present Perfect, Past simple, Future Simple, and practice passive
modal verbs.
* Teaching aids:

B.Procedure:
I. Presentation:
1.Warmer:(Pelmanism)
1.sell 2.grow 3. do 4. find 5. stop
a.grown b. found c. stopped d. sold e. done

2.Rewrite:
- Ask ss to rewrite the sentence as dircted:
They sell jeans all over the world.
→ Jeans
*Key : Jeans are sold all over the world.
- Elicit from ss : ACTIVE: S + V + O

PASSIVE: S(o) + BE + PP + BY + O

Q: What is the passive verb form? → BE + PAST PARTICIPLE
- Ask ss how to change an active to a passive.
II. Practice:(Ex.4, p.21) Turn into passive:
- Ss do the exercise individually.
- Call on some ss to give their answers.


- Correct
*Key: a. Jean cloth was completely from cotton in the 18th century.
b. Rice is grown in tropical coutries.
c. Five million bottle of champage will be produced in France next year.
d. A new style of jeans has just been introduced in the USA.
e. Two department stores have been built this year.
- Ask ss about the tense in each sentence.

III. Production:
1. Passive modal verbs:
- Get ss to tell the modal verbs they have learnt (can/could, may/ might, will/ would,
shall/should ,must, have to, ought to, be going to)
- Give example and ask ss to change into passive:
You must do this exercise carefully.
→ This exercise must be done carefully.
Form : S + modal + be + PP
Use : The passive form of modal verbs.
- Ask ss to do Ex. 5 (p.21)
- Give feedback and correct:
a.This problem can be solved.
b. Experiments on animals should be stopped.
c. Life might be found on another planet.
d. All the schools in the ciy have to be improved.
e.A new bridge is going to be built in this area.

2.Substitution drill:

- T gives active sentences → Students give passive sentences:

Mary helps John → John is helped by Mary

helped was helped
has helped has been helped
will help will be helped
should help should be helped
is going to helped is going to be helped
can help can be helped
