A. Aims:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to get some experience in
learning a foreign language and how to report questions, commands
*Teaching aids:

B. Content
I. Pre

reading:

2.Pre-teach Vocabulary:

(an) aspect : lĩnh vực, mặt, khía cạnh (translation)


(an) examiner : giám khảo (explanation) → examinee: thi
sinh

(a) candidate : thí sinh (antonym) ≠ examiner


(an) oral examination : cuộc thi vấn đáp (explanation)
You don’t have to write on paper, you just answer questions in this exam.
≠ a written examination : cuộc thi viết (exp/exam)

3.Pre

questions:
- Set the scene: Lan is talking to Paola, a foreign student, about the exam that she has
just taken.

a.

Was it a written examination or an oral examination?
b.

Were the questions in the oral exam difficult or easy?
c.

How many questions did the examiner ask Lan?
- Have students predict the answers and write on the board.

II. While


reading:
1.Listening to the tape (Students listen to the tape, pointing every word)
2. Reading the dialogue (pairwork)
3.Answer pre-questions:
a. It was an oral examination.
b. They were difficult.
c. About over 7 questions.
4. Check the list of questions for the oral examination of Royal English College
(P.33)
- Get students to read the list then read the dialogue again and decide which
questions were asked in the dialogue.
- Check the answers

5. Compare the direct questions and the reported questions:
- Have students read the dialogue again and find out the reported questions from the
dialogue, compare it to the direct questions

Do you speak any other languages?

She asked me if I spoke any other languages

Why are you learning English?

She asked me why I was learning English?

III.Post

reading:(Grammar awareness)
- Elicit the form,use, meaning of the reported speech.
Forms:
1. S1 + asked + O(người) + WH-word + S2 + V(past)


Reported WH questions
