A. Aims:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to persuade friends to attend the
school they like, and reply to their friends’ persuasion

I. Pre

speaking:
1. Warm

up:

Shark attack: COURSE (6 letter)
- T gives situations: If you are awarded a scholarship to attend an English course,
what country will you want to go to? Why?
- Students give their ideas:
Eg: S1: I’d like to learn English in England because I want to meet the Queen.
S2: I’d like to learn English in Emerica because I want to visit Hollywood
S1: I’d like to learn English in Australia because I want to see kangaroos


Introducing the new lesson
2. Pre

teach vocabulary:

(a) scholarship : học bổng (explanation)


The award of money to a clever student to enable him to continue his study.


(a) dormitory : ký túc xá, nhà ở tập thể sinh viên (trans/exp)


(n)Campus : khu trường học
(explanation)
A ground of a school, college or university


(n) reputation : danh tiếng (synonym=fame, honor)


(a) native speaker : người bản xứ
(example)
The person who speaks his mother tongue.


(to) persuade : thuyết phục (explanation)
It means “ try to make another agree with you”
* Checking: what and where
3. Set the scene : Thu, Tam and Kim are awarded a scholarship to attend an English
Language summer course abroad. Each of them would like to study in a different
school and country.What do they say to persuade their friends to go to study with
them?
- Remind students of expressions that they can use to persuade someone to do
something:

4.Reading:
- Have students (in groups of 3) read the three advertisements about the 3 centers of
English in UK, USA and Australia on p34 to get information.
II. While


speaking:

(group work)

A goup of 3 students

Each student in each groups plays the role of Thu, Tam or Kim to persuade two
rest to attend the English language summer course abroad they like, and the two
rest reply the persuasion.
- Call on some groups to demonstrate before the class.
- Correct
* (For) example exchange:

Tam: I think we should go to the Seattle School of English in the USA. You can
stay with Vietnamese friends.

Kim: I disagree because we can’t practice speaking English with native
speakers.

Thu: Why don’t we go to the Brighton Language Center in the United
Kinhdom? If we go there, we can live in a dormitory on campus.

Tam: But the course is too expensive. It costs US $2000

Kim: What do you think about the Brisbane Institute of English in Australia?

Thu: I think it’s quite close to Vietnam.

Tam: And we can enjoy the beautiful scenery there.


Kim: If we go there, we can stay with an Australia family to discover their
culture and practice English as well.

Thu: Peple say that they have a good way of teaching English and the course is
acceptable. It cost US $1200

Tam: Let’s go to Australia to attend that course

Kim: I absolutely agree with you. How about you, Thu?

Thu: Of course. Me, too.
III. Post–speaking:

front of the class.
