(câu tường thuật)
Khi nhắc lại câu nói của người nào đó ta dung câu tường thuật, tiếng Anh gọi là “Reported Speech” câu nguyên văn mà
chúng ta muốn nói là gọi là câu trực tiếp “Direct speech” . Những điểm chúng ta cần chú ý khi chuyển đổi:
He said (that) …, She said (that) … hoặc He told me (that) ., She told me (that) …
mở đầu bằng
Direct speech Reported speech Ex1: Lan said “ I’m a good student”
present simple past simple Lan said (that) she was a good student.
is/ am / are was / were Ex2: Minh said “ I play soccer”
Ex: go / visit went / visited Minh said (that) he played soccer
Do / does did Ex3: Minh said “ He doesn’t play game”
biến đổi thì Past simple past perfect Minh said (that) he didn’t play game.
Present perfect Ex4: Peter said “ I played soccer”
Ex: gave / went Ex had given / had gone Peter said (that) he had played soccer.
- Will would Ex5: She said” I will call you”
She said (that) she would call me.
- Can / may could / might Ex6: Mr Long said “ I can drive a
car”
Mr Long said (that) he could drive a car
- Must had to Ex7: She said “ You must phone me”
She said (that) I had to phone her.

Khi mệnh đề tường thuật ở hiện tại đơn
Trường hợp đặc biệt cần lưu ý Ex: She says “ I’m working as a teacher now”
She says that she is working as a teacher now.
Khi mệnh đề tường thuật chỉ một chân lý hay một sự thật hiển nhiên
Ex: She said “ The sun rises in the East”
She said that the sun rises in the East.

Khi mệnh đề trong ngoặc kép có must not (chỉ sự cấm đoán)
hoặc should / had better / ought to

Ex: My mother said “ You must not be lazy”
My mother told me that I mustn’t be lazy.
Ex: I said “ You ought to say sorry to her.”
I said that he ought to say sorry to her.
