2.1. THÀNH PHẦN KẾT CẤU CỦA ĐẤT ĐÁ
Đất đá được cấu tạo bởi 3 thành phần (3 pha): hạt rắn
(pha rắn), dung dịch hoặc nước (pha lỏng) và các chất khí
(pha khí).
2.1.1. Phần hạt rắn (pha rắn)
Đối với đá cứng và nửa cứng - thành phần khoáng vật và tính
chất các liên kết đóng vai trò quan trọng trong việc xác định
các tính chất cơ lý.

2.1.2. Nước trong lỗ rỗng của đất đá (pha lỏng)
Dựa vào mối liên kết giữa nước với các hạt đất đá chia ra:
-Nước trong khoáng vật của đất đá
-Nước kết hợp mặt ngoài: được giữ lại trên bề mặt hạt sét do
các tác dụng hóa học, hóa – lý và điện phân tử.

Sơ đồ biểu thị sự phân cực của nước
Tùy theo mức độ kết hợp mạnh yếu khác nhau, nước kết hợp
mặt ngoài hạt đất chia ra nước hút bám và nước màng mỏng:
a) Nước hút bám: Tỷ trọng lớn hơn 1. Đối với đất cát là 0,5%,
đối với đất sét pha là 5 - 7%và đối với đất sét là 10 - 20%. Khi
đất sét chỉ có nước hút bám thì đất ở trạng thái cứng.
b) Nước màng mỏng: chia ra nước liên kết chặt và nước liên
kết yếu.
- Nước liên kết chặt bám tương đối chặt xung quanh hạt đất,
độ ẩm tương ứng với bề dày lớn nhất của nước hút bám và
nước liên kết chặt gọi là lượng chứa nước phân tử lớn nhất
của đất. Khi trong đất chỉ có nước liên kết chặt thì đất ở
trạng thái nửa cứng.
- Nước liên kết yếu là phần bao ngoài của nước màng mỏng.
Khi trong đất có chứa loại nước này thì đất ở trạng thái dẻo.
Sự có mặt của nước kết hợp làm cho đất có tính dẻo; nó còn
có tác dụng bịt kín các lỗ hổng giữa các hạt đất làm cho tính
thấm giảm đi hoặc thậm chí không thấm.
-Nước tự do là nước nằm ngoài ảnh hưởng của lực hút về phía
hạt gồm:
Nước mao dẫn tồn tại trong lỗ rỗng, khe nứt nhỏ của đất đá
(bề rộng<2mm) dưới ảnh hưởng của lực mao dẫn.

Nước trọng lực: Nước trọng lực có khả năng dịch chuyển dưới
tác dụng của trọng lực hay do sự chênh lệch áp lực.
2.1.3. Khí trong lỗ rỗng của đất đá (Pha khí)
Khí trong đất có thể ở trạng thái tự do, hút bám hoặc bọc kín
hay hòa tan. Khí bọc kín và khí hòa tan làm tăng tính đàn
hồi, kéo dài quá trình cố kết, làm giảm khả năng thấm của
đất.

Tính chất cơ học của đất đá bao gồm:
Tính biến dạng
Tính bền (Cắt và nén là 2 hình thức chủ yếu làm mất độ bền
của đất đá)
2.3.1. Ứng suất và biến dạng của đất đá
Khi có tác dụng của ngoại lực thì bên trong khối đá xuất hiện
các lực chống lại – nội lực, hình thành ứng suất trong đất đá.
Lực tác dụng vào vật liệu và làm thay đổi kích thước của vật
liệu gọi là áp lực.
Ứng suất là lực tác dụng lên một đơn vị diện tích. Biến dạng -
tỷ số biến đổi về chiều dài, chiều rộng hay chiều cao.
Ứng suất và ứng suất hữu hiệu: tải trọng Q tác dụng phân bố
đều lên một tiết diện A của mẫu đất. Tải trọng thực sự tác
dụng lên phần hạt rắn của mẫu đất là Q’.
