SUMMARY
PRENATAL DIAGNOSIS OF CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE BY FETAL
ECHOCARDIOGRAM
Congenital heart disease is the most common form of congenital anomalies in children,
accounting for about 1% of live births. However, children with missed or delayed diagnosis of
congenital heart defects are significant problem. This can result in higher mortality although
these cardiac malformation can be cured such as transposition of great arteries, coarctation of
neral antenatal obstetrical ultrasound can miss many
cardiac anomalies, so fetal echocardiogram is needed. Fetal echocardiogram is a good method to
evaluate the human fetal cardiovascular system and screen antenatally congenital heart disease.
The purpose of this presentation is to update standard guidelines for performance, introduce
indication and some common images of congenital heart disease by fetal echocardiogram to get
early diagnosis and give counseling, planning of care prior to birth.
