I/ Aim:

+ Identify the characteristics of the book.
+ See the book map to know the structure of the book.
+ How to greet teacher when in class.
II/ Language contents:
- Vocabulary: Letters of the Anphabet.
Number from 1 to 10.
Greeting.
III/ Techniques:
- Ask and answer, work in pairs and individually, work in groups, discuss.
IV/ Resource and Teaching aids:
Student book Tieng Anh 3, pictures.
V/ Procedures:
A. Warm up:

- Greeting.


- Call some ss sing to warm up.
- T introduce about the subject.
B. New lesson:

1. T show ss how to greet T when in class.
- When T come in:
+ In the morning ss say: Good morning teacher! ( Chào buổi sáng)
+ In the afternoon ss say: Good afternoon teacher! ( Chào buổi trưa)
- When T go out of class ss say: Goodbye teacher! ( Chào tạm biệt)

- Group leader role as a T and other greeting when T come in and go out of class.

2. Introduce the alphabet:

- T write the letters in the board and ask ss to write down in their book.

4. Identify the characteristics of the book.

- Open the book, then T introduce the characteristics who will appear in the whole
book. Ex: Nam, Hoa, Tony, Peter, Linda, Tom,..
+ Call the name of Vietnamese ss: Nam, Hoa, Mai, Phong, Nga, Quan, Linh.
+ Call the name of foreigner ss: Peter (‘pi:ter), Linda (‘linda:), Tom (ta:m), Mary
(‘meri:), Tony (‘touni).
+ Use the title when call the name of teacher and older pp: Mr (‘mister), Mrs
(‘misiz), Miss (mis).
Ex: Mr Brown (‘mister braun), Mrs Green (‘misiz gri:n), Miss Hien (mis hien).

- Each member call the name of the characteristics of the book.

- Ask ss to open the book page 4-5 to see the book map.

AND MY SCHOOL.
+ Each unit has 3 lessons, 1 lesson we study 2 periods.
+ Finish 5 unit we have 1 Review. There are 2 Review in the book.

I/ Aim:
By the end of the lesson students will be able to greeting and self – introducing.
Develop their speaking skill.

- Structures: Hello. I’m + name (Mai). / Hi, Mai.
Nice to meet you.
III/ Techniques:
Work in pairs and work in groups. Communicative approach.

V/ Procedures:
1.WARM-UP AND REVIEW:
_Say hello to the class and introduce myself, using “ Hello, I’m + your name” ,
ask Ss to answer Hello, Miss/ Mr + name. Do that a few times.Walk around the
class to say hello again to some Ss and ask them to answer, slapping on your hand

held out.
_Let Ss introduce some information about themselves (maybe in Vietnamese)
and introduces oneself in English.Example: Hello. I’m Dung. (Hi. I am Dung).
2. NEW LESSON:
1. Look, listen and repeat.
a/ Pre- teach: Teaching vocabulary.
+ I (translate)
+ Hello/Hi (translate)
+ I’m = I am (translate).
- Get Ss to read all the new words in chorus, in groups, then individual.
b/ Checking vocabulary: Slap the board.
- T asks Ss to listen and repeat in chorus three times.
- Let Ss practice the dialogue in pairs

3. Let’s talk
- Have Ss look at the pictures and introduce four characters: Nam,Quan,
Phong. (/Using the puppets).
- T models the dialogue (use a picture)

- Have Ss to repeat the sentences in the bubbles a few times
- Call on one pair and ask them to pretend to be Nam and Phong.
- Call on one more pair to be Nga and Phong and do the same way.

- Have Ss to work in pairs: Nam, Mai, Nga and Phong.
- Monitor the activity, check the pronunciation ( sound, assimilation of sound
and intonation) and offer help when necessary.
- Call on some pairs to perform the task at the front of the class. Others observe
and comment.
- Make some questions to check Ss’ comprehension of language
- Have the whole class repeat all the phrases to reinforce their pronunciation.

4.PERSONALIZATION
- Have Ss look at the pictures on page 6and identify the characters in the
pictures.
- Point to Picture a, ask Ss to guess what the girls would say to greet each other.

- Have Ss to repeat the sentences in the bubbles a few times before let them
practice freely.
- Have Ss to work in pairs (use the names in their books or the real names to
practice.
- Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary/ correct typical
pronunciation errors.
- Call on a pair to demonstrate at the front of the class.
- Have the whole class repeat all the phrases to reinforce their pronunciation.
C. PRACTICE:
4/ Listen and tick
- Ask pupils to open their book on Page 7 and tell them the purpose of listening.
- Play the recording twice.
- Then ask St to report their answers.

5/ Let’s write:
- Tell Ss that they are going to read and get information to write the missing
words in dialogue 1 and 2.
- Ss read silently and complete the dialogues.
- Ss trade their answers within pairs or groups for corection

- Ask Ss to read the answers aloud to the class. The others listen and give
comments.

3. Let’s talk
Introduce the new words:
 Note: difference between Hi/ Hello and Bye/ Goodbye
+ Hi is very informal. Ss can use with friends but not with an adult, e.g. a
teacher.

+ Hello is also informal and friendly but more formal than Hi. It can be used
with teachers and other adults.
+ Bye is a short from of goodbye and more informal. It would be used between
friends.
+ Goodbye can be used between friends, but also with people older than the
speakers.
- Have Ss look at the pictures on page 8 and identify the characters in the
pictures.
- Point to Picture a, ask Ss to guess what the boys would say to greet each other.

_Model: call on a pair and ask them to pretend to be Peter and Phong to act out
the greeting exchange. Repeat the step but this time have the pair swap their
parts. Call on one more pair to act out as Linda and Quan, following the same
way with Nam and Mai. Have the class repeat all the phrases in this section.

_Pairwork: Ss practice in pairs. Monitor the activity, check the pronounciation (
stress, assimilation of sound and intonation), and offer help when necessary.
_T calls on some pair to perform the task at the front of the class. The rest of

3. Let’s talk:
- Have a Ss look at the picture on page 30 and ask them to identify the
characters in the pictures. Then tell them that they are going to practise greeting
and self –introducing. Point to picture A and ask Ss to guess what the girls woul
say to greet each other. Fill the speech bubble with the correct phrases provided by
Ss. Then have them repeat the sentences in the bubbles a few times before letting
them prastice freely. Ss could use the names in their books or their real names to
practice.
_Groupwork: Ss practice acting out in group, using the pictures in their books
or character puppets.
Students work in groups to play role.

- Have Ss look at Pictures 1a, b; 2a, b and d on Page 13 and identify the

- 1st:Play the recording all the way through for Ss to listen while they are
looking the pictures in their books
- 2nd: play the recording for Ss to listen and tick the correct pictures.
- Choose one or two Ss to share their answers with their classmates.
- 3rd: play the recording for Ss to check their answers.
- Have Ss trade their answers in pairs for correction
- Ask some questions to ensure Ss’ comprehension of the listening text.

- Greet Ss and have them reply. Walk around the class to ask the names of some

B. NEW LESSON:
1. Look, listen and repeat.
- Get Ss to read all the new words in chorus, in groups, then individual.
- Call on some pairs to perform the task at the front of the class. Others observe
and comment.
- Make some questions to check Ss’ comprehension of language.
- Have the whole class repeat all the phrases to reinforce their pronunciation.
- Ask ss to work in pair to practice the dialogue.

_Have a Ss look at the picture a, b. Ask them to identify the characters in the
picture. Use the flashcards to teach the greetings in the speech bubble. Have Ss
repeat the phrases a few times.

_Model: call on a pair and ask them to pretend to be Nam and Linda to act out the
dialouge. Repeat the step but this time the pair swap their parts. Call on one more
pair to act out as Quan and Peter, following the same way with Nam and Linda.
Have the class repeat all the phrases in this section.
_Pairwork: Ss practice in pairs. Monitor the activity, check the pronoun ( stress,
assimilation of sound and intonation), and offer help when necessary.
_T calls on some pair to perform the task at the front of the class. The rest of class
observe and give comments if possible.

3. Let’s talk:
- Have a Ss look at the picture on page 30 and ask them to identify the
characters in the pictures. Then tell them that they are going to practice greeting
and self –introducing. Point to picture A and ask Ss to guess what the girls would
say to greet each other. Fill the speech bubble with the correct phrases provided by
Ss. Then have them repeat the sentences in the bubbles a few times before letting
them practice freely. Ss could use the names in their books or their real names to
practice.
_Pair works: Ss practice acting out in pair, using the pictures in their books or
character puppets. Students work in groups to play role.
