I. PRE-LISTENING:
1. Warm up : General questions : (tell alie) tellthe truth
Ask Ss “ what did you do yesterday?

- Tell the truth
- Then ask students the same questions but ask them to tell a crazy story
respond to
creative answer and have a laugh
Draw a similar map on the boarb : Put a sudent ‘s name at X on the map. Then
put the location of where that studen’s said he/she went yesterday . Have the
class give (you) the teacher directions how to get from the student to the
location.

2. Set the scene :
Ask ss to imagine the class went on a picnic last weekend .Ask ss to tell you
what they did ,what they ate , if they had a good time . Encourage them to
give creative answers . Tell ss they are going to write a story about the
picnic.
3.Pre-writing 1.

+ Ask ss to find the verbs in the word cues. When a student says a verb, write it
on the board and use verb form aerobics to review the past forms( go, take, put,
walk, lay ,enjoy ,look , arrive, be )
+ Tell the ss to take a dictation

Read it 3 - 4 times and make sure all ss have written it in their notebooks. Ask
one student to come to the board and write the sentence . Then ask another ss

Underline all the verbs . Ask the ss if the verbs are in the simple past tense . If
the verb is correct, put a check on top of it .If not,put an X and let ss correct
it . Note: this activity is important beacause it teaches ss how to do their own
correction later in the class
II. WHILE-WRITING
1. Give ss 10 minutes to continue writing as many sentences as they can from
the cues

2. Ask ss to exchange papers with their parterns. Tell them to underline all the
verbs they find .After 2 minutes of silent time,ask some ss to tell teacher how
many verbs they underlined.Then get ss to check if all the verbs are in simple
past tense .If they are not,ss can correct them for their partners.The teacher
should go around and make sure ss are underlining
III. POST-WRITING:
Ask ss to help you write the story on the board .One student can write one

sentence.Get other ss to underline the verbs. Check to see if they are in simple
past. After all the verbs are correct , tell ss to clap their hands for a successful
story. Then use ss controlled correction to check other mistakes.
IV. HOMEWORK

Set the scene about the interview and let ss read the dialogue
Make sure they understand it by asking checking questions in Vietnam.
Then ask ss ork in pairs to read again and decide which questions in the
exercise on page 33 were asked in the dialogue . Give ss to work in pairs , then

II. PRACTICE

Ask ss to work in pairs to report the questions on the board from the LN game .
Tell them the have 5 minutes to report as many questions as they can , or assign
one half of the class questions 1-4 and the other 5-7 . After ss work for 5
minutes , let some students call out their answers . Use ss controlled correctoin
to check
III.PRODUTION
Speaking: Ask ss to individually decide which 3 questions in the box on page
33 they’d like to answer. Tell them to circle those 3 questions. Then work in
pairs, ask and answer the questions that are circled
The aim of this activity is to give ss control over what questions they want to
answer . If a student is not confident in her English, she can circle simple
questions. If a student is feeling brave, she can circle mere difficult questions .
Ask ss circle, they begin to think about the answers
After 5 minutes pair speaking,the teacher can ask for ss to ‘ raise yourhands if
you want to anser question 3’……….. to check some answers

AIM: By the end of the lesson,ss will be able to think logically about giving
reasons, practice the target language of persuasion and know some vocabulary
related to studying a foreign language
+ Teaching aids : posters
+ Ways of working: whole class-pairs
CONTENT:
I.PRE-SPEAKING
1.Warm up:
Persude me ! Draws something on the board that ss might like( a bicycle , an
ice-cream cone ,….) .Tell ss the teacher ‘ll give this thing away to the person
who gives the best reason. Take 3 reasons from ss , but don’t allow any ss to
give the same reason twice.
Bicycle S1: ‘Iwant the bicycle because it’s beautiful and new”
S2: ‘Iwant the bicycle so I can race in the bicycle race this weekend
and win the prize……..’
Encourage ss to give the teacher creative reasons. Then the teacher likes the
best to give the bike to. If a student repeats the same reason, say ‘sorry, Iheard
that reasons already” and let another student speak. This will encourage ss to
listen to each other. If ss struggle, let them give their ideals in Vietnamese
2. Pre- speaking:
+Go through the table on the page 34 and make sure ss understand what is, set
the scene…………
Have ss match some vocabulary words with Vietnamese : Dormitory reputation,
campus, culture, scenery
Point out that school= institute =language center in this case
+ Put a poster on the board with some reasons you might choose one of the
schools instead of the other two. Give ss 5 minutes in pairs to match the reason
with the school it refers to.

Ask ss to work in pairs to add a new season to attend each shool(ss in section
