Topic 1: HOBBY


People have different hobbies, for example: listening to music, watching T.V,
dancing, playing games. My hobby is to read books.
I enjoy reading many types of books, but my favorite is detective. I like reading
stories about Sherlock Holmes of author Conald Doyle. I often read books in the
evening after I finish all the work.
When I have free time, I often go to bookstores to look for new books. I often go to
the city library to read there. I sometimes read books online if I cannot get hard
copies of the books I want.

Books help me relax a lot after days of hard work. Thanks to books, I can broaden
my knowledge and learn new things.
Mọi người có sở thích khác nhau như nghe nhạc, xem TV, khiêu vũ, chơi trò chơi. Sở
thích của tôi là đọc sách.
Tôi thích đọc nhiều loại sách, nhưng yêu thích của tôi là thám tử. Tôi thích đọc
những câu chuyện về Sherlock Holmes của tác giả Conald Doyle. Tôi thường đọc
sách vào buổi tối sau khi tôi hoàn thành công việc.
Khi tôi có thời gian rảnh, tôi thường đi đến nhà sách để tìm những cuốn sách
mới. Tôi thường đi đến thư viện thành phố để đọc. Đôi khi tôi đọc sách trên mạng,
nếu tôi không có những bản sao của những cuốn sách tôi muốn.
Sách giúp tôi thư giãn rất nhiều sau những ngày làm việc chăm chỉ. Nhờ sách,
tôi có thể mở rộng kiến thức của tôi và học hỏi những điều mới.

Nam is my closest friend. I met Nam at high school. We studied in the same class. When
we were at school, Nam learnt very well and often got high marks. Now, Nam works for
a bank in the city. Nam is married and has 2 children. Because of work, we are now
busy, so we don’t meet often. But sometimes, we go out for a coffee or beer and talk
about our family, our work and life. We still share problems with each other. Nam is very
kind, friendly, funny and responsible. He always know what is right, what is wrong. We
usually have the same opinions, so, I am very happy to have a friend like Nam.

As you know, I often play sport at the weekend and my favorite sport is football - the most

I often play with my co-workers. We love it because it helps us to have a good health and
fun at the same time. Sometimes, we join in competition. It helps us love our group, love

My family is very big: my parents, my wife and my children. So, my house is quite big.
It has 5 rooms, a living-room, 3 bedrooms and a kitchen. The living-room, is large with
beautiful pictures on the walls. It is the place for our family to gather and have big meals.
The bedrooms are nice, too; one is for my parents, one is for me and my wife and one is for
my children. The kitchen is tidy with a gas cooker, a washing-machine and a fridge. Around
the house is a large garden with many fruit-trees and flowers.
I like this house very much. It is the place where I can relax after a work hard day. It brings
me happiness all the time. I wish I would live in it forever.
Gia đình tôi rất đông: bố mẹ tôi, vợ tôi và con tôi. Vì vậy, nhà tôi khá rộng. Có 5
phòng, 1 phòng khách, 3 phòng ngủ và bếp. Phòng khách thì rộng với những bức
tranh đẹp trên tường. Đây là nơi gia đình tôi tụ hợp và có những bữa ăn lớn. Phòng
ngủ cũng đẹp, 1 phòng cho bố mẹ tôi, 1 cho vợ chồng tôi, và 1 cho các con tôi. Bếp

Tôi yêu nhà tôi lắm. Đó là nơi tôi thư giãn sau 1 ngày làm việc vất vả. Nó mang lại

The weather in Vietnam
There are four seasons in HN during the year. At the begging of the year, it is Spring.
The weather in Spring is warm and cool. It is the best time for flowers to bloom (nở
rộ). However, there is a little rain in this time of the year. The biggest festival of the
year is in this season – Tet’s holiday. Then, it is summer. At this time, it is sunny and
hot all day. It’s best time for you to go swimming or go to the beach (bãi biển). You
should also remember to bring (mang theo) with you an umbrella because there are
often showers (mưa rào) in Summer.
In the middle of the year, it is Autumn. The weather is cool but quite dry. It is the
time for you to play with fashion (diện đồ thời trang) .
At last, that is winter. It is very cold and windy. The temperature is lowest in a year.
But compared to other countries, it may not be really awful because there is no snow
in VN

Nowadays, it is very important to learn a foreign language because of these reasons:

Second, it help us feel confident when we travel abroad. We can talk very easily with people
in other countries and learn a lot from them. We can use the language to work and do
business without an interpreter.
Finally, though a foreign language we learn we can learn more about the people of that
country, we know a lot about their culture and customs. We can become friends of many
people so our life is more interesting.
In short, when we know a foreign language we can open a new door to our world.
Ngày nay, rất quan trọng để học một ngôn ngữ nước ngoài vì những lý do:
Đầu tiên, học một ngôn ngữ nước ngoài, tiếng Anh ví dụ, giúp chúng ta học hỏi và
nhận được thông tin về những điều mới trên thế giới. Có rất nhiều cuốn sách viết bằng
tiếng Anh, Pháp, Nhật, Trung Quốc ....
Thứ hai, nó giúp chúng ta cảm thấy tự tin khi chúng ta đi du lịch nước ngoài. Chúng
tôi có thể nói chuyện rất dễ dàng với những người ở các nước khác và học được rất nhiều
từ họ. Chúng ta có thể sử dụng ngôn ngữ để làm việc và làm kinh doanh mà không có một
thông dịch viên.
Cuối cùng, mặc dù một ngôn ngữ nước ngoài chúng ta biết chúng ta có thể tìm hiểu
thêm về người dân của nước đó, chúng ta biết rất nhiều về văn hóa và phong tục. Chúng ta
có thể trở thành bạn bè của nhiều người để cuộc sống của chúng tôi là thú vị hơn.


Tóm lại, khi chúng ta biết một ngôn ngữ nước ngoài, chúng ta có thể mở một cánh cửa
mới cho thế giới của chúng tôi.

lành because there are not many people or much traffic (giao thông). People in Bacgiang
is very kind and helpful (tốt bụng và giúp người). I love living here more than crowded
city.
It is famous (nổi tiếng) for …(1 loại bánh) cake. People visiting Bacgiang often buy this
cake as a present (quà) for their friend.

Well, I’m really busy with work these days, but I still spend at least one hour a day watching
news on TV. It’s broadasted everyday at 7p.m on VTV3 channel. It updates every news all
over the world. This information is very useful for me, for my work and for my life. I really
like gathering with my co-workers and discuss about politics, economics and talk about
future. If I miss the news program, I often come online to read electronic magazine to
update hot issues of the day, of the week.

Tôi rất bận với công việc nhưng tôi vẫn dành ít nhất 1 tiếng đồng hồ mỗi ngày để
xem tin tức trên TV. Nó được phát sóng vào 7 giờ tối trên kênh VTV3. Nó cập nhật
mọi tin tức trên thế giới. Thông tin này rất hữu ích cho tôi, cho công việc và cuộc
sống của tôi. Tôi rất thích tụ tập cùng đồng nghiệp và thảo luận về các vấn đề chính
trị, kinh tế và về tương lai. Nếu tôi nhỡ 1 chương trình bản tin nào, tôi sẽ lên mạng

Topic 9: KEEPING BODY FIT AND HEALTHY
If you want to have good health, you should follow these pieces of advice:
First, you should eat healthy food: lots of fruits, vegetable, fish and drink enough
water everyday to stay healthy. The Japanese eat a lot of fish so they live very long.
You should eat less meat and fat food because they may cause heart diseases. Fruits
and vegetables no only bring you lots of vitamins
Second, you should exercise everyday such as jogging, tennis, badminton, swimming
…. They not only make you strong but help you relax as well. So, it helps you keep
fit and stay healthy. If you don’t have much time, you just need to do morning
exercises.
Finally, you need to have regular health check-up. If you have some problems with
your health, you should go to the doctor immediately before it gets more serious. You
should visit the doctor regularly in order to find out any diseases you may have.

There are about 20 students in my classes and they come from different areas. The classes
take place at weekends so we can’t enjoy nice weekends and spend most of our time

English exam with good results. My friends are very good at English and they help me a lot.
Also, what I like about this class is our English teacher. His name is David and he is a very
good teacher. He has tried his best to helps us, he tell us a lot of jokes in English which
helps us learn new words more easily.

cuối tuần vì vậy chúng tôi ko thể dành thời gian cho ngày cuối tuần mà phải dành

There are many beautiful places in my country and in the world that I want to travel to. That

discover a new place and know more the beauty and culture of new places.
Secondly, I can meet and talk to more people. It will be very fun. Besides, I can
enjoy different and famous dishes in local area. I’m sure that, after the travel, I will
feel more relaxed and therefore, work better .
Before going somewhere, we have to find about the weather and transportation there.
Food is important, too if you have hard eating habits.
Có rất nhiều địa điểm đẹp ở VN cũng như trên thế giới mà tôi muốn đến. Đó là….Tôi
cũng muốn đi du lịch nước ngoài, đến……

Tôi thích đi du lịch vì du lịch có rất nhiều lợi ích. Đầu tiên, du lịch giúp tôi khám
phá những nơi mới mẻ, biết thêm về vẻ đẹp và văn hóa của chúng.
Thứ hai, tôi có thể trò chuyện với nhiều người hơn. Sẽ rất là thú vị. Bên cạnh đó, tôi

TOPIC13: THE MEANS OF TRANSPORT YOU LIKE/ HATE MOST

Among the public means of transport, I like the bus most because of the following reasons:
First, traveling by bus is cheaper than any other means of transport. The cost of bus tickets
for a month is about 50 thousand dongs, but the cost for going by motorbike, for example is
much higher about 500.000 dongs per month.
Second, going by bus is very convenient and comfortable . You can sit on the bus without
having to worry about the weather conditions or dirty and dangerous roads. For example, if
it’s rainy, you will not be afraid of getting wet. If the weather is hot or cold you always feel
warm because the bus is air- conditioned.
Third, the bus is the best means to help reduce the traffic jam and pollution. If many people
travel by bus, fewer people will travel in private vehicles such as motorbikes or cars; thus,
there will be fewer motorbikes or cars and we can reduce traffic jams in the rush hour. Also,
the environment around us will becomes less polluted because there is less smoke from cars
or motorbikes.
In short, the bus is the means of traveling I enjoy most because they bring us many benefits.

important because of these reasons:
- First, when the computer is connected to the Internet, it is a good way of learning and
getting information. You can read newspapers on line and download lots of information

from the web pages. Besides, you can learn online as well.
- Second, a computer is convenient because it helps you work faster by typing, printing
document and storing data if you want.
- Finally, Computer is a good way to entertain with many kinds of games and
entertainments. There are a lot of games and on line activities like forum or blogs for you to
share ideas and information with your friends. You can also listen to music or watch movies
if you like.
In short, computers are really useful and important to my life and my work.

I often cook when I have free time because cooking is a joyful and relaxing activity for me.
- First, cooking a good meal brings happiness to my family. All the members in my family
can gather around the table and enjoy the food I cook and talk and share the joy with each
others.
- Second, cooking is my favorite hobby because I’m a woman. Cooking is one way to show
my feminine character and to show my responsibility in the family
- Finally, cooking helps me reduce stress of everyday hard work and makes me relaxed.
When I cook, I can forget the problems that I have and just pay attention to the cooking.
May be, after relaxing, I feel much happier and I can solve my problem.
In conclusion, cooking is my favourite activity when I have free time.

First, living in the country can bring you a clean environment. The air is fresher and there

Second, living in the countryside is cheaper than in the city because people there have lower
income and don’t have the habit of spending a lot of money. If you live in the country, you
can save a lot of money.
Finally, people in the country are more friendly and opener than people in the city because
they live near each other. People live together in a small village so they can talk to you
everyday and help you when you are in need. Every month, people in the countryside can
have festivals and you can join and fell very happy.

In conclusion, there are many benefits of living in the country.

Many people find it difficult and unpleasant to live in the city because of these reasons.
First, the air in the city is getting more and polluted because the traffic is so heavy, the city
roads are in bad conditions and the population is really big. There are fewer and fewer trees,
lakes and rivers
Second, the cost of living is much higher than in the rural areas. People have to spend more
money on food, drinks, clothes and other activities like traveling and entertainment, while
the salary has not been much improved.
Finally, life in the city is more dangerous than in the countryside because of night clubs,
discotheques, casinos... City people are easily attracted by social evils such as drinking,
drug-taking or gambling... So, there are more crimes because some people don’t want to

In short, living in the city has many disadvantages so people have to struggle a lot to

Weekend time is my favorite time in the week because I can enjoy myself and do
many relaxing activities I like.
In the morning, after a relaxing breakfast, I often call some of my friends to ask them to go
shopping with me. We spend the whole morning going shopping and then have lunch in a
restaurant in the centre of Hanoi.
Then, I come back home for a nap. In the afternoon, I often go swimming with my neighbor
if the weather is hot. In winter I go jogging in the central park instead. I usually have dinner
with my family during weekend, so we can talk with each other and share our stories. After
dinner, I sometimes listen to music or surf the net to chat with friends or check emails. I
usually do not go to bed late because I will have lots of work on Monday.

TOPIC 19: THE MOST INTERESTING PLACE YOU HAVE BEEN TO

I have been to many places in the world and in Vietnam, but the most interesting
place that I always remember is Nha Trang, the beautiful coastal city in Vietnam. It’s
wonderful to me because of these reasons.
First, the scenery in Nha trang is ideal for us to go sunbathing. We can swim in the blue and
clear sea water or do sunbathing on the soft sand beach under the yellow and warm
sunshine. The air is so fresh and pure.
Second, the local sea food are fresh, delicious but not expensive. For example, tourists can
enjoy different kinds of seafood such as crab, prawn, lobster, seashell… Also, the people
there are friendly, sociable and polite.
Third, there are many interesting activities to do beside playing football, tennis on the
beach, building sandcastles on the beach or watching the sunrise/sunset. For example, we
can sail on a boat trip to the Stone Beach called Hon Chong (Husband Rock) and watch the
mountain scenery on the way. Also, we may visit the Sea Creature Institute if we want to see
sea animals with our own eyes.
For these reasons, Nha Trang has always been one of my favourite tourist attractions

Thứ ba, có nhiều hoạt động thú vị để làm ngoài việc chơi bóng đá, quần vợt trên bãi
biển, xây dựng lâu đài cát trên bãi biển hoặc xem mặt trời mọc / mặt trời lặn. Ví dụ, chúng
ta có thể đi trên một du thuyền đi thăm Hòn Bãi biển gọi là Hòn Chông (chồng Rock) và

TOPIC 20: A MEMORABLE BIRTHDAY PARTY (Bữa tiệc sinh nhật đáng nhớ nhất)
My last birthday is a memorable celebration in my life because it was the first time I
had my boyfriend beside me on an important day.
The birthday party took plave (diễn ra) at a small café’. My close friends came early
with presents, flowers and fruits. They set up (chuẩn bị) everything for me because in our
group, when someone’s birthday comes, the other will prepare (chuẩn bị) everything.
I put on my most beautiful dress and came to the party with my boyfriend. He gave a
big bunch of roses (bó hoa hồng) and birthday cake. When we appeared (xuất hiện), my
friends were all surprised (ngạc nhiên). They didn’t know I had a boyfriend.
I introduced (giới thiệu) my boyfriend to them and we all had a lot of fun wih a lot of
memorable pictures
TOPIC 21: DIFFICULTIES AT WORK
I work as the dean’s assistant (trợ lý trưởng khoa) at Accounting Faculty at Hanoi
College of Technology. My work is quite interesting (thú vị) but difficult (khó nhọc)
as well.

It is difficult because of the following reasons (lý do sau đây)
First, I have to do a lot of work with both teachers and students. They have different
characteristics (tính cách). Some are good but some are not responsible (có trách
nhiệm), so I have to try a lot to finish the work of the faculty.
Second, I have a lot of work to do during a day. It is hard for me to organize the tasks
and remember all of them. Besides, there are a lot detaied work (công việc chi tiết),
so sometimes I cannot avoid making mistakes (không thể tránh khỏi mắc lỗi).
Lastly, my work is not only office work, I also have to teach. Sometimes, I feel very
nervous because when I teach, I still think about other office work. It makes my
lesson less effective (kém hiệu quả).
That’s all.
TOPIC 22: TRADITIONAL FESTIVAL


There are many festivals in Vietnam, but the biggest (lớn nhất) and most important
(quan trọng nhất) one is Lunar Year festival (tết âm lịch). On this occasion (dịp),
Vietnamese don’t work or study, we have a long holidays of about 5 or 6 days. We
call it Tet’s holiday.
Before the festival, we prepare (chuẩn bị) everything (mọi thứ) from food, decoration
(đồ trang trí) and new clothes. Everybody is busy to go shopping and do housework
so that everything is perfect (hoàn hảo) to welcome the new year.
From the first day of new Year, we go to pagodas (chùa) to wish happy things for the
coming year, and then come to visit our grandparents, relatives (họ hàng) or friends.
It is the chance (cơ hội) for us to gather after a year. We share our success or failure,
talk and have fun. After four days enjoying the festival, we come back to our work
with a lot of energy and hope.

TOPIC 23: YOUR FAVORITE RESTAURANT
Well , I often go to a Chinese restaurant near my house. I and my husband often eat there at
weekends or special occasions (cac dip dac biet). The food there is very fresh (tươi) and

delicious (ngon). For example, chicken or beef. The servers (nguoi phuc vu) are very
friendly and helpful. Some of them can speak Vietnamese very well. We like eatting there
because the atmosphere (không khí) is warm (ấm áp) with some soft music. Besides, the
price (giá cả) is not expensive. You just have to pay 150.000 dongs for a meal for two
people. (91 words)
