INTERVIEW QUESTIONS ABOUT YOURSELF & FAMILY
1. Tell me something about yourself?/ Introduce/Say about yourself please?/ Let me

know about yourself…Or firstly,I want to say about yourself. Say smt please?
I’m D. Now, I’m 24 years old. I come from Thanh Hoa province. I have just
graduated from Navigation Department of Vietnam Maritime University. I’m the forth
child in my family including 6 people. I like playing football, swimming & reading
books especially scientist books,… My dream is becoming a good captain in the future.
And i can earn much money to support my parents.
* Where did you graduate from? And When?
*Do you have girlfriend ?
No, I don’t.
*Oh! Really. You’re 24 years old. It’s not too young to have a girlfriend. Can you tell me
why?
Because I want to focus on studying: studying my navigation major and English so that I
can get a good job in the future.
*Do you have girlfriend? What will you do if your girlfriend doesn’t want you work on
board?
2. Tell me something about your family?

Well, thanks for your question! There are 4 people in my family, they are my mother,
my father, two elder brother, a elder sister and me. My parents are famer. They live in a
small village where is fairly quiet. My house is close to a small river and market.

*Where do you live now? How far is it from here? How do you get here?...
*What is your hometown famous for?
* Do you often come back your home?
Yes, I often. Because my hometown is not far here….

* How far is it ?


It’s about 70 kilometers.
* How long does it take to get there/your home ? How do you get there?(by
coach/motorbike).
It takes me one and half hours to come home.
3. What are your strengths/good points/advantages?

I’m a strong and discipline man. So I can work hard for a long time even in rough
working environment. Besides, I think I can work well & effectively with a team.
4. What are your weaknesses/bad points/disadvantages?

Well, I have just graduated from my university, so I think my weakness is the
experience. But I will try my best to improve it when I have a chance to work on board
especially foreign ships.
5. What do you do in your spare/free time?

In my spare/free time, I like reading books, learning E, playing sport or go
swimming. You know, it depends on each season in year. I also spend time for helping
my parents doing housework such as clean, decorate my house…so on. Sometime I relax
with music.
6. What kinds of/different sports do you like? (why)

I like playing football, table tennis, swimming and running. I like them because they
make me stronger, relax & flexible. That’s good for my job….
7. What are your hobbies ?

I enjoy reading book, playing football, swimming…
8. What kind of book do you like? And why?


I like scientist books, history books. Because I can get much more knowledge about
science after reading them.
9. Why do you want to become a seaman/seafarer?/ Why did you choose this job?/ why

did you study in navigation department?
As you know, my parents are famer. My family is very poor. I studied Navigation
because I want to be a good Captain in the future and I can earn much money to
help/support my parents. I hope my parents’ life is better than before and I have a
good future.

As far as I know, M.O.L or mitsui OSK line was found in 1884. Over a period of 130
years, it has became a big corporation with big fleet, about 296 operating vessels. MOL
has many head office in many countries. In Vietnam, its headquarter is located in 2
places: HP and HCM city. That’s some main information about MOL which I know. I
hope I will become a crew member of MOL.
*Why do you know our company ?
Actually, I get information about your company on the internet. I also have some friends
who passed M.O.L’s interviews and became a member of M.O.L since they was the third
years student,so I can get more information about M.O.L through these friends.)
10. Why do you want to work for our company?

Because your company has many big ships with a good working condition and safety
working environment. They operate worldwild, so when working on that ship I will have
a chance to improve both my English, marine major ability. Moreover, I can get high
salary by my own ability and effort.
11. Have you ever worked on board the ship?


No, I have’nt sir. Now,I’m looking for a good job.
12. What kind of ship do you want to work on? Why?

Yes, I have. I’m a tutor.

I teach math for a 12 grade student.

It’s about 1 million VND.

Firstly, I want to find a good job and work on board foreign ship so that I can earn
much money. I’ll get more experiences to do my work well. After that I’ll buy land and
get married, have some children…(smile)
15. what qualification have you got?

I got good degree from navigation department of Vietnam maritime university 1 year
ago.
16. what sort of salary do you want?/ What sort of salary do you want?/ How much
money do you want to earn per month?
Of course, as much as possible. But I know it depends on company’s policy and the
fact of maritime field now. I want to work on foreign ship to get high salary by my
own ability and effort.
17. what is your goal in the next time?


My goal is to work on foreign ship, to get much experience from real work and
improve my English so that I can become a good master in the future.
18. How long will you work on board ?


I will work on board as far as I can. My goal is to become a ship’s master in the
future. I think at least 20 years.
19. What do you think about seafarers’ life?

Working environment on board is very hard, lonely, limited and far from home
especially you can be seasickness. But I’m not afraid that, I always practice to improve
both my health and mental in order to work best on board.

for?

23. Why?

Because it’s very useful and important for seafarers to navigate the ship safely and
avoid collision at sea.
24. How do you study English ?

Well, most of time I study English by myself, besides I also have an english extra class
at Vimaru English Center, and sometimes I go to navigation English club to practice
English skills with my friends.
