TOPIC: IF YOU HAD MAGIC CARPET AS THE ONE OF
ALADDIN, WHAT CITY IN THE WORLD WOULD BE
YOUR DESTINATION? EXPLAIN WHY?
Number 21
People say that I am such a dream girl to keen on traveling. That is right,
because I suffer from an incurable skin condition. How does a little girl can
go around the world with bandages and wheelchair, when every second of
the day she endures an unimaginable pain? Stuck in my tiny room, I still
dream of being able to see the world, to one day be free. If only I had a
wish, I would no doubt visit Paris- the city of light.
My disfigured feet leave me immobile and unable to stand or walk. 18 years
I cannot stand on my own feet but I can stand on believing in Goodness, in
Magic that helps me go through. Surfing Internet is the best way to solace
my longing. My computer has full of information about Paris, as if I ready to
go for very long. Remember vividly the day I saw a beautiful picture of Paris
by night, I couldnot force myself stop being directed toward. That moment I
desired to be someone else escapes from reality- to be there. I had never
thought such a luxurious city covered by colorful lights and admiring
building projects existed. Right away, I searched out “Paris” on the internet
and all the results made me keep focusing on the screen.

Till now, I still remain the attraction as the first time when thinking about
Paris. Since France is considered as the origin of great Europe civilization, its
magnanimous history was prettified to the antique features and diversity
culture. Paris which is the capital of France has the strange fascination with
the sparkling and dreamlike beauty. It is the place where fashion, culture
and music are fabricated together. Eiffel Tower, Le Sacré Coeur, Arc de
Triomphe, Notre- Dame, etc give an impression of strength and beauty
which have lasted up to our days. The more I think of Paris, the more I thirst
for my wish comes true.

One day, as normal, I surf the internet:
Buzz!
Aladdin: Happy birthday, Trang Vu!
Trang Vu: Thank you so much!
Aladdin: Well. Do you believe in Magic?
Trang Vu: Of course, Ala. But don’t tell me that you have witchcraft.
Aladdin: Yes, I have. Today, you are the special one chosen by me. Please tell
me your wish.
Trang Vu: I am? You’re… (I have a little shock)
Aladdin: Yeah me.
Trang Vu: Unbelievable! Oh my Goodness! I always dream of going to Paris.
Will it be true?
Everything changes even though I haven’t typed yet. I soon realize my
beloved place is right beneath me and I’m on a magic carpet. At the

moment, I can’t force myself stop bursting into tears. I’m so happy to see
Paris- the place where my heart belongs. Without wheelchair and disease,
I’m totally free, free at last to see the world and to live my dream. I’ll hold
on this feeling forever. Being there is the most perfect memory for me to
cherish the rest of my life.
Paris by night…

Have you ever wished to be a superman or superwoman? Or lived in the
wonder land full of marvelous things? You wish to own the flying carpet?
And if this dream came true, where would you go? Prosperous Europe or
peaceful Asia?
If i did, i would come a place, neither beautiful nor wealthy, but a very poor

one, where i can give some help for those who are in need.
Africa is the poorest, with a harsh climate. People here, especially children
are suffering from many difficulties such as malnutrition, illiteracy, poor
health care system, and so on. The life of young ones in this continent is
worse and worse day by day.
The images of almost dead children caused by starvation, or a mother with
her child on her back walked thousand-mile desert route to get a saving life
bowl of porridge made me breathless and heartbreaking.
Not only lacking food, water is one of the most serious problems here.
Fresh water is out of most African’s dictionary. Lasting 12 month droughts
made the peak in the cereal price, threatening the lives of million people.
When reaching the refugee camp, many parents were nearly exhausted due
to experiencing many days without eating. There almost dead children on
their hands. Parents could not do anything but watching helplessly their
dear daughters, sons gradually die.
As any other continent’s children, African children are innocent, they have
the right to live, to be happy. Suffering a lot of pain and hardship, African,
children in African need help.

We, as ones have a happier lives, let do something to help children.

If I had a magic carpet like Aladin, which city would I go? This question is
not easy to answer at all. There are too many interesting places in this
world to choose: London, New York, Sydney,... even Hanoi too. Perhaps if I
really had to choose, I would choose Paris.
Alright, how could Paris be placed over any interesting city above? The first
reason can be stated in just one short word: food. Paris has the one of the

finest cuisines in the world. If I were in a restaurant there, I would try every
dish I could, from dishes that I have only seen on TV so far - like the
Macaron or crepe - to the dishes I have already known - like cheese or the
French bread, to see how the same food can taste differently in different
places. I would even taste some really peculiar dishes like the goose's liver.
Moreover, I would try to enjoy the food in a Parisian way: sitting on the
table as politely as I could; using the spoons, forks and knives on the table
properly. And of course, I could not eat my meal without any wine at all.
The second reason why I choose Paris can also be expressed in an even
shorter word: art. Or a slightly longer word: The Louvre. Where else could I
see the famous everlasting smile of Mona Lisa? Or the Venus of Milo, in
which a woman's physical beauty reaches almost perfection? But while
these two works of art would be my main focus, I would take my eyes on as
many other paintings and sculptures as I could. In fact, since the Museum
contains so many things to see, my trip would likely extend to two or more
days. And of course, every time I went to the Louvre, I would not miss going
through the Louvre Pyramid and see everything through the glass.

Here comes the last reason: just Paris. If my trip to Paris were done by a
magic carpet, I would see the Eiffel Tower before anything else in the city.
The Tower would also be my first place to land the carpet, where I would
have the whole view of Paris for the first time. After that, I would take a
slow ride around Paris and stop at any landmark along the way, like the
Cathedral of Notre Dame or the Panthéon, where I could pay some respect
to France's most famed men and women like Voltaire or Pierre & Marie
Curie.
I would fly to the top of the Eiffel Tower once more at dusk, to see the
sunset and the lights turn on in the whole city. When the sky was fully dark,
I would take a nearly identical ride to the one I had done in the sunlight, but

in this time, I would not go inside the previously seen places, instead to look
at them on the outside and see their breathtaking lighted-up beauty.
Now is the time I have to get off of the magic carpet and go back to real life.
I hope you all enjoy the ride. Thanks for your attention!

Journey to the Big Apple…
This is where the dream starts… If I were to acquire Aladdin’s flying
carpet, the first thing I would most probably do would be crushing into a
nearby tree. That of course, was just a joke. Well, there are plenty of places
around the world I would really like to pass by but there is that one special
city in particular which I have always dreamed about visiting. That city is the
New York City…
New York City – the Big Apple is one of the largest and busiest cities
in the world. It is the dream destination for me and millions of people
around the world. People always dream about starting becoming rich with
so called “American Dream” and New York City is the place full of
opportunities to begin with. Now that I have the carpet, the dream might
come true.
I would be so excited to be able to instantly fly to that fabulous city. I would
fly over the city first to enjoy its beauty, especially at night: All the glamour,
all the lights and beauty of the city – viewable from my ultra speed magical
carpet. I can only imagine the tall skyscrapers with thousands of bright
windows erecting into the sky and beneath them city streets with
constantly moving light dots. All of which creates a magnificent night view
with that dreamy look which can seduce almost every soul. The city is also
very beautiful in daylight, especially at dawn. The sun rising in the horizon
slowly lights the city and with it most recognizable landmark - The Statue of

Liberty in the distance. That is truly a marvelous view, representing what
traditional values United States of America stands for: Freedom and Liberty.
There are of course other landmarks around the city that I could finally visit.
Among them would be the tall classic Empire State Building, the Epic Times
Square, the Yankee Stadium, the Brooklyn Bridge with its large suspension
cables, the Central Park with its beautiful natural landscape, the musical
Broadway….and lots and lots of them. The whole mixture of these special
locations just adds to the beauty of the city.
However, the beauty of New York lies not only with its landmarks, financial
districts, huge streets… it is also exhibited by the beauty of its people - the
New Yorkers along with many people from different places. If you walk
around the city, you can see a lot of people ranging from rich businessmen
in the lower Manhattan area to the normal working people in all
professions in shops, streets, service centers. There are a lot of servicemen
dedicated to their work such as policemen and firefighters who on that
disastrous day September 11th , displayed great courage and sacrifice
rescuing thousands of people trapped in WTC. In overall, the people of New
York are pretty friendly and helpful but unfortunately not all of them. The
city itself suffers from poor conditions and economy also. Some streets are
filled with homeless people and they are very dangerous at night as the
robberies and homicides are on the daily basis. But those are only some
minor dark sides and shall not undermine this great city.
I would like to tell more but I guess there is actually more for me to explore
with that flying carpet. Also, according to my knowledge, the Aladdin’s
flying carpet may accommodate more than one person. Therefore you are

always welcome to join me in this great journey to the great City as it is
waiting

for

us

with

all

its

glamour

and

If I had a magic carpet as the one of Aladdin, I would go to Venice. It is the
city in northeastern Italy, made up of over one hundred small islands linked
by bridges and separated by numerous canals. I chose this city as my
dreamy destination for several reasons.
First of all, Venice is famous for a variety of architectural styles, especially
Gothic style. There are many historical buildings and a lot of colorful houses
with unique design around the city. The interior design in most buildings,
moreover, is sophisticated.

Besides, the city has several fabulous

architectural masterpieces designed by some of the most renowned
architects in the world. Furthermore Venice by night looks very glistening
and even mysterious like a labyrinth with hundreds of lamplights.
Secondly, the whole city was built on the top of a lagoon and the main ways
to move from one to other places are canals, on which boats are the
favorite means of transport for both the locals and tourists. In addition,
there are no cars and trains. The air is, therefore, so clean. This is why many
other places in the world wish to be compared with Venice. Besides,
tourists can walk down the small streets to take photos and see beautiful
houses here. It is so interesting.
Another reason I wish to fly to Venice is that I like birds, that I could be
friendly with thousands of wild pigeons who are abundantly available
everywhere in the city. The pigeons in this city are adorned with vibrant
colors, for example, red, yellow and green ones. There are also pigeons in
bright purple.

Venice is indeed one of the most beautiful cities around the world, which
makes it an attractive destination to most of the tourists. It is hard for me to
afford a long and very expensive journey to that such a remote city. Now
thanks to a magic carpet I can accomplish my dream.

Imagining I am travelling in the sky, I can touch the clouds, say “Hello!” to
the pigeons hovering. And below me, a river is gently flowing, a variety of
architectural style of buildings dimly loom in the thin fog, adjacent to many
parks and garden. I am not neither in a plane nor on a crowded street, but
sitting on a magic carpet, enjoy the beautiful scenery. That would be
definitely a strange but tremendous and wonderful experience if I had that

chance to come and visit the capital of England and the United Kingdom –
London.
London is a leading global city, with strengths in the arts, commerce,
education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional
services, research and development, tourism and transport all contributing
to its prominence. However, the things I like best of London is the beauty of
its structures, with reputation of architecture as well as their history.
One of the ten most-visited attractions is the Tower of London, that is the
first place I want to visit. Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress, more
commonly known as the Tower of London, is a historic castle on the north
bank of the River Thames in central London, England, United Kingdom. It
lies within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, separated from the
eastern edge of the square mile of the City of London by the open space
known as Tower Hill. The Tower of London has played a prominent role in
English history. The primary function of the Tower is to be a fortress, a royal
palace and a prison for royal internees who have high positions. Also, the
Tower attracts me because of being one of the most frightfully haunted

houses in England. There are many stories about the wraith of Queen Anne
Boleyn, going around the tower, headless and white-dressed, or King Henry
VI, Laday Jane Grey and some other princes.
Next, I want to “fly” to the center of the city and visit another tourist
destination, which is one of the most famous square in the United Kingdom
as well as the world – Trafalgar Square. The name commemorates the Battle
of Trafalgar (1805), a British naval victory of the Napoleonic Wars over
France. There is a statue of Duke Nelson to honor him with the victory. That
is also the most prominent of the square because the statue is 5.5 metres
high, and is placed on a 52 metres pillar. But in my opinion, the most
interesting thing of the square is the feral pigeons, and feeding them was a

popular activity.

Nowadays, the feeding of birds on the square's

pedestrianised North Terrace and other pavements in the area are banned.
But there are still many pigeons there, which bring a natural look for the
city.
There are many other famous and beautiful places in London. I want to visit
them all. The Tower Brigde, which is a combined bascule and suspension
bridge in London, over the River Thames, has become an iconic symbol of
London. It is close to the Tower of London, from which it takes its name.
The Baker street in the Marylebone district of the City of Westminster in
London,

is most famous for its connection to the fictional detective

Sherlock Holmes, who lives at a fictional 221B Baker Street address. There
are many tennis courts, with the traditional “lawn tennis” different to
almost other courts in the world, and the most famous is the center court,
the only place to hold the final of the Championships Wimbledon. Also, I

want to see the famous Buckingham Palace, the clock tower of the Palace of
Westminster which is one of the most prominent symbols of both London
and England. And many other historical, scientific, and monumental places
such as the Queen Victoria Memorial, Buckingham Palace: Cung điện
Buckingham, Horse Guards, Piccadilly Circus, The Princess Diana Memorial
Fountain, Centre of Maritime Greenwich, Royal Obeservatory. Altogether,
they would be the best memory of my life – the unique chance to visit my
favourite city.

Topic: If you had a magic carpet as the one of Aladdin, what city in the
world would be your destination?Explain why?
Few years ago, my family moved to Hanoi and I really love this city.
However, this is not the place I love most. If I had a magic carpet as the one
of Aladdin, I would choose to fly to Nha Trang city where I used to live for
16 years.
Nha Trang city is in the South East of Vietnam with the long beautiful beach
and amazing islands. Nha Trang bay has been recognized as one of the
nicest bay all over the world. It contains nineteen islands covering the
surface of 507 kilometer square. This bay is the most interesting destination
for domestic and foreigner tourists because they have chances to go around
and discover the perfectly natural combination of sea, sky and islands.
Besides, tourists are also put in the favorable condition to try different kinds
of seafood like crabs, shrimps, fish and so on. In the morning, it is really
exciting for people to go jogging on the beach for a while and have a seat on
the sand to watch the wonderful sunrise before having some fun with the
sea water, which gives people the fresh feelings to start a new day. When I
was there, I felt like every single day was the special day for me to start
something new, to try my best to reach my goal and to live with people I
love.
Furthermore, people in Nha Trang are very friendly, hospitable and “laidback” and they enjoy their life without worrying about the global economic
crisis, the rise of unemployment and etc. Sixteen years in this city is enough

for me to understand the lifestyle and the tradition of this area. I have a lot
of friends there, some was in the primary school and some in the secondary
one, but there is a girl that I will remember forever. She was my close friend

since I took a first step to the kindergarten. She has played with me, had
lunch with me, taken my hand on the way back home…and she has been
always right beside me to not only make me laugh but also share my
sorrows since we were kids. Sometimes, I accidentally ignore what she has
done for me, which makes her cry a lot, but after all, we are still close
friends. At the moment, I am living in Hanoi while she is a singer in Ho Chi
Minh City – the big city in the south of the country. We haven’t been
together since I left Nha Trang six years ago and I really miss her. Thus, if I
have a chance to go anywhere, I will definitely go back there, give my close
friend a big hug and have a chat for all night long.
Nha Trang city is not only the place I was born but also the second
homeland of mine because it is how I feel my life, what I want to keep in
my mind, where I wish to live for all my life and who I love till I die.

In my childhood, I really like to read fairies “ Aladin and shange lamp ” is the
most fairies fairy. I really want to have magic carpet. If I had a magic carpet
as the as of Aladin, I would travel the world became I like to see places.
Having the magic carpet means I don’t have to pay for the ticket and I don’t
have to wait for a particular day, I can just sit on the carpet and off I go. But
the most place is American. US is a big country in the world. It’s dynamic
and exciting and this is the mordern country. I want to fly around the liberty
englighteaing the world. Then I fly on Golden Gate Bridge and view San
Francisco bay. In the time I feel very free and interesting and feel I’m a bird.

If you had a magic carpet as the one of Aladdin, what city in the world

would be your destination? Explain why?

Suddenly, a shining halo appear in dark night, and a carpet is soft
curved. I blink to see clearly if the carpet is true. I gently step on the velvet
carpet, it shakes. The first place that comes to my mind is the city of New
York. Few seconds after, I sit on the carpet and fly through the dark sky
across cities that shine so bright like magic.
I don't believe that I'm in the sky of New York, U.S. Flying around,
suddenly, I spot the face of the statue of Liberty Enlightening the World. The
Statue of liberty is symbol of independence of US and people in the world,
that is dream, aspirations for the world is peace. I look at the exquisite face
of the goddess Statue of liberty which is a symbol of US, the statue is
situated at Ellis island. On the right hand of the goddess, holds a torch, left
hand holds Symbol on the independence of the U.S.
The carpet is magical, i am so high up in the sky, I look down and i see
Obama through a large TV screen on the road giving a speech. Obama is the
first black president of the U.S, he represents the elimination of racism.
Immediately, i move closer to the crowd to have a better view. I shouted
with all the people: "Obama". I have a dream.

I like America because they have a long history. The first few citizens
of New York are not Americans. They come from other countries, diversity
for the New York as well as other states within US.
I fly around a modern city, the carpet change location to map of US
showing New York as a focus point. I smile to myself, finally my dream has
come true. I open my eyes, it's a nice dream. Carpet is so magical, Life also
have miracles and if I try my best i can achieve my goals and my dream will
come through. The dreams never fade away, as long as you believe it will
surely come to past.

The place I live now is nearly a disaster. I mean no offense to this city but in
my opinion, I am not supposed to live here. This city makes me sick of its
activeness. Every day I drive through the cramped quarters, sink in the
terrible noise from thousands of motorcycle and million of people talking,
yelling, and coursing all day. Ha Noi, the city I live since I was born and
never been left for more than a fortnight now becomes a stinky nest that I
am crazy for running away. I have been thinking about this several times,
but there is an ugly truth is that I can not afford to pay for transporting,
flight ticket is too much for a poor Vietnamese student, I need a free (or
cheep) and fast mean of transport; a magic carpet would be perfect, if it is
possibly real. If I had a magic carpet, I would fly immediately away to find a
peaceful, clean and natural place. In fact, I would not have to find that, I
have already had one in my mind (thanks to the internet), Tasmania island.
This island is famous for its endemic species, Tasmanian tiger, even though
this animal has been extinct long time ago. However, the feature, which
impressed me about, is the marvelous natural beauties this island has. In
this place, there are several ecosystem, from marine to terrestrial where
consist of unique fauna and flora. I can imagine about the scenario if I was
there. I would climb mountain, walk in the forest blink in the fog or
searching for many special species I could not see nowhere in the world,
such as the great fern and Tasmanian devil, the largest carnivorous
marsupial in the world alive, the journey would be a perfect lesson for a
biological student like me. In the afternoon, I could wander along the sandy
crystal coastal, watching sunset and collecting oyster shells while the

penguins go searching for nests. More over, in this beautiful place, I could
enjoin the peaceful atmosphere, stay away from crowded cities. Besides, I
also have some small reasons that motivated me to choose this beloved
island. In spite of being natural, this island is not primitive; it has a quite
modern city called Hobart. This city is where I could update news from the
world outside and buy some necessary equipment or live a modern life for
few days if I want with low living price. The last but not least reason, Native
speaker here using English, the language that feel comfortable in normal
conversations and those Australian are believed to be friendly. I always
dream of that life. In conclusion, I have to admit that a dream is just a
dream but I am a realistic person. The magic carpet is definitely a dream, it
is not real, and so is the living in Tasmania at this time. However, if I can
have a dream, I can make it comes true, it is just the matter of time and
money.
