You should say:
what the situation was
who gave you the advice
what the advice was
and explain how this advice was useful to you.
I’m gonna tell you about some useful advice that I have received. So this situation
happened about 6 years ago. It was around September, 2009, I guess. At that time I
was in my last year at high school. I was thinking about what I should do after
graduating. There were two options for me which was whether to continue my study or
to get a job right away. It was a really difficult choice that I had to make. One of my
friends was the one who gave me the advice that effected strongly my decision. He had
been studying in UK, in Manchester to be specific, for 4 years. He is older than me and
he had a lot of real experience. So I knew I needed to ask for his opinion. He told me
that I should study higher education. It would only take me 2 year to receive a bachelor
degree. so it would not cost much time and money as well. he also said that nowadays,
having academic qualifications help me enhance the resume that gives me
opportunities to seek a job easilly. and I immediately got so excited after hearing those
things. And I finally decided to go study in university instead of working straight after
school. At the moment, I really knew that it was a right decision and I benefited a lot
from it.

2. Describe situation when a child made you laugh.

You should say:
who the child was
(when and) where it happened
what he or she did to make you laugh
and explain why you laughed.
I’m a big fan of children. I usually find their innocence and cuteness
overwhelming. I can spend hours, literally, digging cute baby videos on internet
and sharing them with my friends on Facebook. I still remember coming across
this hilarious baby video called “ I want to marry him” the other day
In the video, a five year old girl and a seven year old boy are getting into a heated
exchange over their wedding plan. The girl is insisting passionately on marrying
the boy, but unfortunately, the boy doesn’t feel the same way about her, crying and
screaming desperately for help from the mother, who was recording the whole
thing. I was not the only person who found the wedding argument of the young
couple super adorable and funny as the video quickly went viral and became an
internet sensation, attracting millions of viewers on internet
It got even better when I found out later that the two kids in the video are actually
brother and sister. If they weren’t I bet the boy would terribly regret the day he
turned such a great girl down when he grows up

arrived at Bavi. it was a riot of colour, from the peaceful white of the water
lilies to the striking reds and oranges which filled some of the flowerbeds.
we enjoyed a leisurely stroll, taking in all the colours, perfumes and bird
songs. i was totally amazed at what i saw and learned .i learned a lot

of lessons about the science of plants, animals, weather and
environment. I also learned the necessity and responsibility to make
the world a better place for all the species. It was more interesting,

watching international news as well as current affairs. So, at
times, i turn on TV to watch CNN.
 It is a program which
specializes in breaking news reported by many jounalists all
over the world. It‟s a good idea to combine watching news and
learning English at the same time. I not only update a lot of
information happening on Earth during 24 hours but also gain
vocabularies and practice listening English and so on.

Watching CNN is my daily routine. I watch this program
every morning for about 15 to 20 minutes before I go to work.

I find CNN educational and informative, especially for people

enriches our knowledge and we can deeply understand what‟s
going on in our society.

colleague. In that morning, I woke up early, at about 3 o‟clock to get to
the airport where we agreed to meet. I took a seat in the cafe bar in the
airport and waited for him. One hour soon passed, but he didn‟t show
up. I was beginning to worry a bit then, hoping he would not forget the
business trip or wake up late. I made a telephone call to him, but could
not put through, which made me more depressed. I had no ideas but
made another telephone call to my superior and told him about my
current situation, he told me to fly alone if my colleague didn‟t get to the
airport in time in the end.
To my surprise, after I hung up the telephone, I saw him entering the
gate of the airport slowly. I asked him why he came to airport so late. He
just said he never hurried to catch the airplane, and told me that I should
take easy. Oh, I doubted whether he lived near here. Getting up early is
really hard for me, but waiting for someone who doesn‟t keep time is
even harder. I really didn‟t want to go on a trip with him next time.

(often counting to 100) while the other players hide. The seeker then opens his
eyes and tries to find the hiders; the first one found is the next seeker, and the
last is the winner of the round.
I used to play it when I was a child, mostly when we went to my grandpa house,
as we all gathered there at weekend as kind of hanging out, and all my cousins
who were at my age, liked to do play this game, as that house was big enough to
place us all, and we had enough room to hide.
I remember that I won many times, as I was small , tiny and could easily go into
wardrobe so that no one could see me. There was a wardrobe, in fact, that had a
shelf in high position where I used to hide there, then run back quickly to home

The name of the restaurant is Manzi and its located at the center of the city I live in. Its

but the way she mixes colors makes people admire. She usually
keeps up with the latest fashion and each season, she seems to have

admired the array of bright flowers and fruit trees in the center, but my

a really significant one to me. I looked at the picture
sometimes and can't believe I was so small and different
looking at that time The picture gives me a sad feelings as my
grandfather and my grandmother no longer with us. In the
picture they seems so lively but I can't be with them anymore!

This photograph is probably is my most favorite one as it
conveys my grandparents' memory and depicts a happy family.
Every time I look at this particular picture, it gives a different

english so fluently that at first, i thought she was a native
speaker.
What i liked about her English was her melodious
voice, whenever she spoke, i thought that she was singing but
not talking.
.

.

Every day in that trip, I had chance to listen to her sweet voice.
She helped me improve my ability to give a successful
presentation, how to go up and down when speaking English
and how to call attention from others. That‟s very useful.
And after the trip, we still often keep in touch to learn and
share effective methods to improve our English speaking

company named Manzi
As a full time employee, I have to go to work 5 days a week, therefore the only
time that I can visit this place is on weekend. I always try to make time for my
little trip to Manzi café/restaurant every Saturday or Sunday
The coffee house is located on a quite street with a lot of trees planted on both
sides. In addition, it has a patio with hanging gardens which I like very much, it
makes me feel like im sitting in a garden of my own
Separated from the hustle and bustle of the city life in Hanoi, this place allows me
to sit quietly and reflect, relaxing after a week of hard work. I can concentrate on a
personal project such as reading or writing in my journal without being interrupted
by other people
It serves great coffee, tea and cakes, thus, the place always smell very nice.
Furthermore, the employees are also friendly and helpful

what you did together in this team
and explain why you became a member of this team or explain what the

‟d like to talk about a team project that I was involved in during my
final term at business school. There were four of us on the team, and
our task was to work with a local company to research a new
market, in a European country, for one of their products or services.
Our objective was to produce a report and give a presentation.
 The
first thing we did was split into two groups of two. We had been
assigned a company that produced a range of bicycle accessories, so
two of us spent some time getting to know the company while the
other two researched the market and the competitors in the target
country, which was Germany. In the end, I think it was a successful
project because we managed to identify a possible gap in the market
in Germany for one of the company‟s products. Our group
presentation also went really well.
Page: />Website: www.ngocbach.com

Page 14

Until that point, the course had been all about business theory, so it
was quite a learning experience to work with a real company. I felt a
real sense of accomplishment when we handed in our report and
delivered our presentation, and I think all of us were proud of what
we had done.
.

19. Describe an historic building that you have visited.

You should say:
what it was
where it was

I definitely think Tháp Rùa, meaning "Turtle Tower", is one of the
most important historic buildings in Vietnam. It is on Jade island of
Hồ Gư ơ m lake, "Lake of the Returned Sword," which is located in
Old Quarter, the very central part of Ha Noi.
"Turtle Tower" was built in the late 1800's where “Ta Vong" an
earlier temple, had stood. The temple was built to honour a famous
warrior Le Loi, who fought foreign invaders. Legend has it that this
lake is where the Dragon King reclaimed the sword he had given Le
Loi, to free the Vietnamese people from enemies from the North.
Today, there are large soft shell turtles in the lake, where the golden
turtle which was "Kim Qui" came to the surface and asked Lơ ̣i, for
his golden sword back, to give to the Dragon King. Every once in a
while, people visiting the lake can take pictures of hundred-year-old
Page: />Website: www.ngocbach.com

Page 15

turtles surfacing, which has long been considered as a sign of good
fortune by locals.
The words inscribed on the sword are said to say "The Will of
Heaven", meaning it‟s heaven‟s will that this country and its people
should be free and independent. This tower I believe, a tourist
attraction now, has a huge significance in Vietnamese history as

well as culture.

20. Describe a successful small business that you know.

You should say:
what the business is
where it is
who runs the business / how you know about this business

There is a family living in front of my apartment.
They have their own fast food cafe. They have started that
business before five years. Initially, they sold milk only.
However, they have nice space in front of the house so
got point in mind to open up a cafe. The owner himself has
been a good cook and he had been accompanied by his
wife in preparation. They have two sons who also helped
them in serving and in making. Then gradually they have
Page: />Website: www.ngocbach.com

Page 16

started taking orders on phone through whats app, sms
and calls and started providing free home delivery
services. Many old people live in this area so always they
find problem with making arrangement of food. So this
concept came in mind of owner. These days, many
corporate people come here for lunch and snacks too.
These shop people always maintain hygienic standards

well and make the things in front of us. So the quality of
stuffs and ingredients they use that we can see. And they
use health friendly stuffs. Sometimes, we may feel that we
take better fresh things here than at home. Moreover, they
also charge nominally. So its been a small business of that
family but they have been very well satisfied and enjoy
that business though there has been significant manual
labour in that business. All people appreciate their
services and quality and hence I believe that business is
successful.

21. Describe a disagreement that you had with a friend.

You should say:

Well, two months ago,I thought that summer was coming,so I
needed to do something to lose weight. I saw an advertisement
and intended to take some diet pills. The advertisement boosted
how magical the drugs are. As I was urged to lose
weight, without thinking,I decided to buy some .However, my

roommate didn‟t recommend me to do that. She said the
slimming pills not only cost a lot but also are negative effect to
health . She asked me to keep diet and jogging with her every
night.
I thought it was fine to just have a try. If this plan back
fired, I would try another way to lose weight such as running
or eating fruits instead of meals.
 After taking slimming pills
for a week, I didn‟t have weight lose, but became insomniac,
maybe that‟s a side effect of the drugs. Finally I gave up and
running with my roommate everyday. Now when I „m thinking

what change

and explain how this change would be an improvement to your local area.
.

If there is a chance to change something which makes our local
area better, i think it‟s the small library.
 The standard
knowledge about social issues of local people is quite low. I
will give you a prominent instance about my cousin. She was

the same age as me and she just married last week „cause she
had 5 month pregnancy. But the thing was she didn‟t know she
was pregnant until 2 weeks ago.
 Apparently, she was lack of
sexual knowledge and I think that if only my hometown had a
library in which there was a wide range of books , she
wouldn‟t have come into troubles. Also with a small library,
people at all ages can enlarge their knowledge about all aspects
of life. I‟m sure that this change is a significant turning-point
in the education of my local area. For example, the literacy rate
can be higher, so my province can provide a better welleducated workforce for economy, and unemployment level or
other social evils can be mitigated. All in all, the appearance of
a library is the key to open a new door for my province.

fit)
You should say:

and explain how it helps to keep you fit.

Of all the sports that I more or less know how to play, swimming is
the one that I find most fascinating and I think it keep me fit.. I
learnt to swim when I was a small child because my parents
believed that it would be useful for me.
 Unlike other sports, there

are no rules to follow when you swim. Basically, swimming is just
the combination of arm and leg motions and the natural floatation
of the body.
Swimming is a good way to lose weight and get fit. Cardio workouts
like swimming burns calories, helping me go get rid of excess body
fat and weight. Furthermore, swimming improves the health and
helps me to avoid illness. It will raises heart rate and works the
large muscle groups in the body.
The main thing that fascinates me about this sport is the weightless
freedom and liberation I feel when I swim. It feels just like flying. I
cannot fly, but swimming is the next best thing. The water is my sky.
.

extrovert characteristics, relaxed people with jokes and her good
sense of humor. she was also talkative at times, but i didn‟t make us
annoyed, it turned out to be beneficial „cause we felt comforting
after listening to her funny stories.
It was definitely a big surprise „cause i found that she had a talent
for calling attention from others and the ability to make friends
easily. Later, we both passed the interview and now, we are closed
friends but she still makes me surprised sometimes „cause of her
well- rounded knowledge.

I live in (..say the name of your city..) and this city has got some several issues
related to environmental pollution. The major environmental pollutions that this
city has are air pollution. Air pollution is the direct reason people suffer from
various dangerous diseases including lung cancer, asthma, heart disease etc. In
fact the number of people currently suffering from these diseases in alarming and
if steps are not taken to prevent air pollution immediately, this number would
rapidly increase. Therefore, the strict law would to create public awareness . We
are mostly creating that pollution and endangering ourselves, the nature and
other species. Without our awareness and strict determination to prevent our city
from pollution, we can’t reduce or prevent it. Strict laws should be introduced and
applied against environmental pollution and all the illegitimate industries and
companies should be banned. Job opportunities and other facilities should be
improved in the rural areas so that people can manage works in their own cities
and villages other than coming to this city. This law is needed as it reduce the
risk of harm to the environment and human health, also improve people’s quality
of life.
